How to buy a domain name

Best company to go through in buying a com.au domain? There's so many offering different prices and its a bit confusing.

Once you've bought one how do you go about setting the website up?

Any help is appreciated.

You will also need somewhere to host the website. some places offer packages (hosting and domain) others just domain (where you COULD just use a free hosting service)

What will the website be for? how much data will be stored on the web server?

For the most part it doesn't matter who you get one through.

If you want web hosting too, start off with the cheapest option and upgrade when you need more features (especially if it's your first site). Hosting companies differ in the options they offer and which versions of software they use (ie yahoo are still on php4)

Once you need more and more importantly know what you need, then you can change web hosts anytime and simply change the name servers for your domain name.

The domain names are the cheap bit, the webspace is the expensive part.

You can get a .com domain for about 15 Aussie dollars A YEAR!

You'd be looking at about 40-50 for a .com.au

Try someone like netregistry.com.au - cheap.

Of course.. You'll need an Australian registrar for an Australian domain. You'll need an ABN as well.
