How to find good movies to watch

Maybe everyone knows this already and I'm slow but I only discovered it the other day. On IMDB you can search for a director or actor that you like. Then order the list of their movies by IMDB rating.

Just this week by doing this I found

Into The Wild (2007) - directed by Sean Penn.
The Pledge (2001) - Jack Nicholson, Benicio Del Toro, Aaron Eckhart.
Buffalo 66 (1998) - Vincent Gallo, Christina Ricci.
Time of the Gypsies (1988) - directed by Emir Kusturica.
Arizona Dream (1993) - Johnny Depp, Jerry Lewis, Faye Dunaway.
Pelle The Conqueror (1987) - Max von Sydow.
White Sands (1992) - Willem Dafoe, Mickey Rourke.
Suicide Kings (1998) - Christopher Walken, Denis Leary.

IMDB is susceptible to fanbois (i.e. pretty much every big budget movie will get a pass mark or near enough). Metacritic is more discerning. https://www.metacritic.com/browse/movies/score/metascore/year/filtered

Thanks. I'm probably looking for movies I have missed because they didn't have a big budget and/or weren't big at the box office. Two out of two success so far from my list.
