Am I the only person who has no problem with CUBs?

As far as I am concerned, they're doing honest work and getting paid well for it. They can spend that money however they want.
But they're bogans. If everyone carried their ideals and ethos, Australia would be unliveable – we'd take 0 immigrants, have even higher rates of obesity, and have the artistic and academic worth of a rat. Bogans are laughable at best.

Bogans >>>>>>>>>>>>> daylight >>>>>>>>>>>> childhood cancer >>>>>>>>>>>>> hipsters.

Bogans are generally good people, very simple people. Love a beer, footy on tv, hanging out with their mates. Some are xenophobic or racist, but that's hardly unique to bogans. They don't harm anyone (generally speaking), and are just after a good time. I'm happily bogan.

Bogan is a pretty broadsweeping statement, but they're not to be celebrated. Why is ignorance, racism, political blindness, and social awareness a good thing? Why is appalling health and Two and a Half Men 'cool' or respectable? Bogans are pretty detrimental to Australian culture.

There are two types of bogan. One is your traditional bogan. Meth making, kids born for the economic bonus, anti-social Rottweilers, the kind of arsehole who'd make a mockery of themselves at the Cronulla riots. It's archaic and it bleeds into many facets of Australia. Premature death and poor health, values that are opposed to any kind of change, unemployment, and crime. That's your traditional bogan. Fuqqqqq dat.

Second is the 'new age Bogan.' Buddha statues, two four wheel drives, living in Joondalup. They're FIFOs, materialistic, usually very conservative (h8 da carbon tax!!!! fukn azns these r my money im not paing taxes 4 them!) and that in itself is pretty depressing. It's stagnant.

Aren't you at ANU? I certainly wouldn't say you're a bogan. Your description sounds like the 'normal' Australian 'bloke': Carefree, into the things you said, happy.

Both of those are different variants of new age bogans. A traditional bogan is a beer drinking (VB or Melbourne usually - **** I love Melbourne), sport watching, often hunting/fishing car enthusiast as well. These people are often of lower-socio economic status (though obviously not exclusively), and are largely harmless. They do what makes them happy, and it rarely impacts on others.

Anybody who likes Two & a Half Men (or BBT, Coldplay, Nickleback or KOL) should be sliced to death with paper cuts.

I am at ANU. But I love utes, hunting, B&S Balls, beer, fishing, V8 Supercars, football and spend most of my summer in footy shorts and a singlet. I'd qualify for bogan not a problem in the world.

No. My points were not exclusively bogan things, but a combination of common thought processes in bogans. If u dnt realise that ur a bogan.
I was being pedantic.

I think however that there is a misconception of what a bogan is.

You seem to correlate bogans with ferals.

Some however would also unfairly include working class blokes in the bogan category.

Tex_21, fair point. There is a blurred line between working class and bogan. Both sides of my family are extremely working class. Turnip farmers and coal miners on one side, sheep shearers and dockers on the other. I think working class Australia was endearing – and still can be. But you can be working class without being a total arsehole.

To an extent, I think it's a glorification and nostalgia thing. The 'new' working class is a bogan, to me: V8 Supercars, Holden shirts, living in a place like Yangebup or Rockingham. But someone who voted Labor, played footy, and resided in a suburb like Fremantle is what I'd call working class. Those minor difference basically dictate bogan or working class. But I admit that my ruling is extremely subjective, a glamorisation of the past, and rooted in my ancestry.

And yes, you're a bogan!

South Australian desert is ******* spectacular, do mushrooms in the middle of the Simpson Desert and you will never look at the world the same way again.
Gough, I fear you're too experienced, cultured and world weary for the rest of us at times.

Apart from the footy bit, isn't some who resides in Fremantle and votes Labor more likely to be a Hipster these days?

Apparently not, Bogans are the new Nazis/KKK it would seem. Then again, I sip only very occasionally on lattes, so I just can't get inside the heads of those who vilify the non-college educated, working class folks who have the temerity to make a good living.

Neither of my parents went to uni, and my dad only stayed until year 10. There's a difference between being that kind of elitist, and being against the social decay that 'boganism' breeds.

Bogans =/= ferals.

Blokes who have the skills and werewithal to earn 6 figures aren't, typically, stupid or feral people.

Bogan has become an adjective like leftist, an all consuming description of people who you don't like, rarely meet, who's views you disagree with, and somehow feel morally superior to.
Both are ridiculous words.
