I sent this to Steve from Born In The USA the other day :
1. Get the Melbourne clubs aligned with some AFL clubs. For example the Melbourne Tigers could have a joint venture withy either Richmond FC or Melbourne FC - or even both. Deal would be if you buy a Melb Tigers membership you get free entry to two RFC or MFC home games and if you buy a RFC or MFC membership you get free ebntry to four Melb Tigers games. You could apply the same logic in Perth, Brisbane, Sydney and Adelaide. For the other NBL teams align them with an A-League or NRL team.
2. Get rid of that stupid music during the actual playing of the match. The NBA only have it on at time outs and at the end of each quarter. We should be copying them. When you have music being played during the game it tells me the league is not very confident that the actual entertainment (the match itself) cannot cut it on its own.
3. At least one game on FTA a week, preferably on a Sunday afternoon like they did in the boom times. If Ch Ten were scheduling beach cricket matches on Sunday afternoons this year then I'm sure they could squeeze in a live NBL match. I know Foxtel have the rights but its in their interests to get the NBL out to as many people as possible and one game a week won't kill them.
4. Align itself more with the NBA. Like it or not most hoops lovers in Oz care about the NBA first with the NBL a long way behind. I know I'm that way. One of the things that has not helped is the demise of PBT magazine. Most people bought it for NBA news but as there was some NBL stuff in there as well I also read about that league - albeit it was the last thing I read but at least I knew some of the players.
5. Fantasy leagues. Has the NBL thought of even starting one. Its a great way to generate interest.
6. Like you, I didn't know that ticket prices were $30-$40. That is a disgrace.
Anyway thats my thoughts.
