Who will play on him clement ?
should we get a player to double team him or will mick rely on Clement to take him.I have confidence in clemo but i cant see him chasing down willo he's so dam quick on the lead and once he gets the ball he will most likley nail the goal so it will be a crutial match up in the context of the game.

Not with Clements suspect leg/groin. The problem is we don’t have a competent small medium back. Tarkyn will get a go and get killed I suspect. Swan might be a chance. I start with swan and tell him to get into his ear from the start and whack him on the back of the head at every punching opportunity. Then again, based on last week and MM history of matchups, I expect Jason Cloke to be used until Williams has 8. Actually I expect Jason to be dropped for Morrison.

MORRISON! at least with Cloke you get strength. With Morrison you get nothing of any value.

Short week for Clement to come through.

Harry O'Brien would be ideal but he'd be beaten on experience.
Still think Clement is the best option and then Presti. Jason Cloke may be able to if he has improved his game against a leading forward. Maxwell is another good option.

Heath Shaw or Harry O'Brien should be played because they are currently our only genuine small defenders. Clement and Maxwell can play on smalls but can get run off their feet by the quick opportunist crumbers. Lockyer is able to play on them but either gets beat too easily because he play unnacountable football (see Jeff Farmer pre season) or thrashes them (see Stephen Milne pre-season).

Johnson is no good playing against a marking forward although wasn't too bad when on Riccutio.

Face it, the only way to stop williams is to resort to the tasteless low-life tactics teams did last yr, 3, sometimes 4 on 1, and constant holding.

Luckily this year, we have a way better forward structure, so you go 4 on one, we have an extra 3 players free, you hold, we get the frees with the new rules:D have fun

Wipe that smirk off your face you tool!

As for Williams, Clement will give him another football lesson. Enjoy Hawthorn.

Clement if playing (90% chance he will be) will play on Mark Williams. If not, then I would think Wakelin will be given the job. You can't have a small running backman like Harry, Johno or Swan, you need an experienced full back with some pace. Wakelin is the man IF Clement doesn't come up.

Play 10m in front of him. He won't take contested marks, he will just lead all day and kill you with quickness.

My sentiments exactly. Clement killed Williams 'one-on-one' last year, and he has the pace to go with Williams.

Clement is probably the best match-up for Willo in the comp IMO. But if he's carrying something I'm not sure I'd put him on Willo who so quick off the lead.

Croad at CHF may make it harder to double tripple team him, but he prefers bigger grounds than TD.

Should be a good game.

Perfect answer to him would be...a shotgun!

Seriously tho, plonk a guy in his space (resting ruckman or j-clo, he'll get another shot). Clement obviously if fit...if not, give harry a try to rebound as well. I dont think lockyer, Swan or Johnson are accountable enough. Although Ricciuto did only kick one on roids.

Ok, we'll avoid that and hopefully someone shakes him up in the 1st. Bucks or Sir Scott would send him into orbit.

IMO, I don't think we can stop Williams kicking 5+ goals in good conditions. However if we can stop the rest of the fowards (which i believe we can do) and try to limit contributions from the midfield it won't matter if he kicks 8, we'll still win.

How many times did we see it last year? Willo bag 4, 5 6 goals and Hawthorn lose.
Would Hawthorn supporters be asking how they are going to stop our fowards?

P.S. To stop him, I think Clement is the obvious choice, and play Jason Cloke loose, filling some holes that Willo would lead in to.

you all do realise that williams only kicked to goals from marks on a lead on sunday? he is alot tougher this year, and has learned to manage the extra attention, he will kill you unless you either doubel or triple team him, or play him at his own game, lead with him, and spoil

The number one way to stop him, i forgot too add would be to stop the supply form the midfield, or quality supply rather. Obvious cliche, but tends to work.

Winning the ball out of the middle would be the best way, wouldn't it?
Dry up the delivery to him.Put pressure on their ball carriers. We have the players to shut down their midfield, while still getting the pill ourselves.
Any way,I think they are going to find it harder to stop our forwards more than we are going to have problems with theirs.
They will have to play Croad on Rocca,so he won't be able to play CHF.
What we need to do is win,or break even at least,in the ruck duels.
If Fraser and co. can stifle Everitts input into the game, that will go a long way towards us opening our account for 2006.

geez ********head he's not wayne carey so just keep it in your pants for a while.
he tends to get a lot of kicks from 15 metre passes because they have nobody else to kick to.....in other words he is their only fwd with a hint of ability and talent, but needless to say without 90% of kicks targeting him and without anyone else to kick to he wouldnt kicks as many.
p.s. geez mate u really are an idiotic annoying spadger, please save us and concentrate on annoying your fellow supporters

Well if we play tough attacking footy, with pressure in the middle and our fwds are causing havoc by constantly kicking goals then we wont really need to worry about williams to much but id say clement will go on him, he should be fit he has been named in the side

Im not overly worried about Collingwoods forward line, your mob are very much a hot and cold type up forward. If Rocca is playing well and Tarrant is making contests then the likes of Davis and Didak seem to come to life, however if Rocca does little and Tarrants head isnt in it then you have very little fire power.

Personally i am more worried about the likes of Obree and Holland sneaking under our guard and start to dominate through the middle, they are 2 players that probably most clubs dont rate to highly but always seem to hurt sides when given no respect.

On paper im not to fussed with what you guys bring to the table, i think our midfield has yours covered,Spida,Crawf,Mitch,Hodge,Bateman are a better quartet than Fraser,Buckley,Holland,Obree,Burns. However should your mids win the ball more than they dont and provide some descent balls to your big blokes which you didnt last week then you have a real chance to blow us away. Our backline at this stage is nothing to write home about Dawson is young and can be exploited and Jacobs can be found out when playing on taller opponets and also with Joel Smith likely to play on Tarrant that can take some run away from our backline. We have a undersized, small backline which can be found out by a bigger bodied taller forward line that you blokes posses.

This is all in hindsight and based on the fact that Collingwood will be able top outgun Hawthorn through the midfield which i think is probably not going to happen. Im the first to admit and say when we will get beaten but on this occasion i just feel we have Collingwood covered. In saying that it is just as likely that our inconsistant toss bag form of last year will prevail and we will get pumped by 10 goals.

Verdict: Hawthorn 16.10.106 def Collingwood 12.15.87

Williams to kick 7

What about Cameron cloke is he too slow or maybe even make sure that every lead is taken at least outside the 50 and that makes it harder, crowd the backline, but as everyone have said why do we worry about one player? (Cause Ricciuto last week was the difference he kicked how many 5 well the margin was 34pts he kicked 30 pts hmmm....) So lets not hope that Williams is the difference too. I say we score 100 pts we win!
Canga

williams main asset is his pace, he gets in fron ton the lead and you cant catch him.......clemo showed in the last quarter of last years game how to play on him

clemo not being 100% is a big loss

wakelin, cloke, maxwell simply too slow to go with willo

presti perhaps, lonie even

my first pick would be to play benny johnson on him, and have buckley playing as a sweeper on half back, bucks ability to read the play will mean he will most likely be cutting off willo's leads

if we stop willo hawthorn are virtually impotent

cant wait for didak's usual 4goal bag on that dud m.osborne

also fraser will once more give spida a touch up!!
