Thinking about non-Victorian clubs and why they are at a disadvantage in a very Vic-centric competition.

When teams entered the AFL, they were given extra draft concessions, and when these lists matured, WCE (2), Crows(2), PAFC (1) won flags.

When Brisbane combined with Fitzroy, and created a super team they won flags (3).

Outside of these advantageous circumstances/ concession flags, WCE (2) and Sydney (1) are the only teams who have won flags.

In the last 35 years, that’s 3 non-vic flags, 8 non-vic concession flags, and 26 Victorian flags.

Since the last concession flag (2004 PAFC), 3 non Vic flags, 14 Vic flags.

Yes there is less interstate clubs proportionally, but since 2005, the Vic flags is much higher.

I love a good VIC Bias theory as the next non-Victorian.

But could the case here be less to do with VIC Bias, and a simple fact that the three most recent multi-year dominant on field teams happened to be from Victoria (Geelong 07, 09, 11, Hawthorn 13, 14, 15, Richmond 17, 19, 20).

Adding in Hawthorn 08, those three teams have won 10 or the last 15 premierships.

The 5 interspersed premierships are:
Collingwood 10
Sydney 12
Bulldogs 16
Eagles 18
Melbourne 21
Which is only 1 non-Victorian team away from being even.

Adding in Eagles 06 and Sydney 05 as not being a concession year by using your metrics, then outside of the three dominant teams, non-Vic have won 4 out of the 7 premierships…

So you're saying most non Vic flags have an * due to only winning them due to excessive concessions.
