The money, the kudos, the chance to make history, the boost to his ego. All powerful incentives. With the possibility of him being offered the top job elsewhere, we need to stitch him up.

Absolutely!....and as someone else said earlier...should he lead us as El Presidente to our second ....in relatively the near future, he will be considered The Absolute Supreme Lord of Darkness, greater still than the one who shall not be named....The Big 'V'.
