As the decision comes through that the Trade Week will actually be 3 weeks and the Free Agents have a month to change clubs how do we expect our players to handle the offers that will be thrown at them.
We currently have the equal most Unrestricted Players able to change camps without as much as a compensation pick.

Our 7
Sam Butler (Unrestricted)
Andrew Embley (Unrestricted)
Darren Glass (Unrestricted)
Daniel Kerr (Unrestricted)
Quinten Lynch (Unrestricted)
Mark Nicoski (Unrestricted)
Matt Rosa (Unrestricted)

Not like any of them are spuds?
The 2 I think that would possibly look elsewhere are Butler and Rosa.
Reason:
#Both interstate players
#Both have younger players nipping at their heals: Gaff & Smith
#Both would not be in the top 10 for players payments in the team.

Kerr may be the other that may look to top up his bank account before retiring but the others are IMHO locked in to stay.

If that is the case and both Rosa & Butler Go home & Say Glass and Embley retire how will this effect our team next year.?
Eg: Delistings, Tradeable players, Draft Picks, Elevations?
If this does happen Shannon Byrnes From Geelong is young enough and is also a Unrestricted Free Agent, He would be the very First player to look at IMHO.

Without these 4 and with the injuries we have atm minus Dalziell cause he WILL be delisted, our Team looks waaaaaay too young.

West Coast Eagles (Using the Team from Rnd 1 2012)

B: Beau Waters, Eric Mackenzie, Ashley Smith

HB: Adam Selwood, Will Schofield, Shannon Hurn

C: Chris Masten, Matthew Priddis, Scott Selwood

HF: Josh Hill, Josh Kennedy, Andrew Gaff

F: Jack Darling, Quinten Lynch, Ashton Hams

Foll: Dean Cox, Luke Shuey, Daniel Kerr

I/C: Nic Naitanui, Brad Sheppard, Koby Stevens, Gerrick Weedon

Emg: Blayne Wilson, Patrick McGinnity, Scott Lycett
New: Josh Hill (Western Bulldogs)

Didn't Butler just marry a perth girl? And I think he may work for the family business as well.

As long as he's getting games, I would assume he's staying.

I would be stunned if Butler walked. He said he was extremely gratefull the club stuck by him through the last 4 years due to his injury history and was very gratefull in getting a 2 year extension on his contract. Loyalty breeds loyalty.

As long as Rosa keeps getting a game he will stay IMO, he is not top shelf so clubs wouldn't throw riduculous $$$ at him.

Would be amazed if Kerr bailed out and Embely, Glass and Nicoski won't play elsewhere.

I can see Ash Smith looking elsewhere if he has a few injuries / drops form and plays alot of WAFL. Same with Swift.

You do realise that it was announced yesterday that Rosa had re-signed, don't you? ;)

I can't see Rosa and Butler attracting that much interest. I mean if they are out of contract I'd expect other clubs to inquire if they want to move, but I can't see them saying 'OK so you're on $250k, we'll give you $350k because we need a player like you'.

The players that most if not all other clubs would target are LeCras, Gaff, Naitanui, Hurn, Kennedy, Darling, Shuey, S Selwood & Lycett. If we can keep these guys happy then we'll be fine.

I think a fully fit Rosa is in our top ten players.

Cox, Kerr, Glass, LeCras, Shuey, Priddis, Kennedy, Hurn, NN and Rosa.

MacKenzie, Scooter or Gaff may edge him out, but based on last seasons form he is definitely up there.

As for free agency, I am not to concerned. I doubt Kerr would dog the club after the good 4-5 year ride he has had. Once Gaff has signed, I would be more worried about losing Lycett.

I think that's a bit of a stretch.

He's a good player, mind. A handy player to have in your 'bottom' dozen in any starting team.
Who was consistently better in 2011 outside of the players I have listed?

Nicoski, kicked a solid amount of goals but I still wouldn't think so, Embley if we were going only on the first half of the season.

Rosa is a very solid player, far more than handy and criminally underrated. When fit I think he just edges into our top 10.

He is underrated, and yes handy might not have been the word to use, but he isn't in our top 10 players.

2. Mark Le Cras
3. Andrew Gaff*
4. Daniel Kerr
8. Beau Waters
9. Nic Naitanui
10. Scott Selwood
11. Matt Priddis
13. Luke Shuey
16. Eric Mackenzie
17. Josh Kennedy
20. Dean Cox
21. Quentin Lynch
23. Darren Glass
25. Shannon Hurn
26. Sam Butler
27. Jack Darling*
31. Will Schofield
32. Andrew Embley

* Young player who could be argued either way. But I'd say the rest listed are better players.

You could also argue about a few others such as Lynch and Schofield, but I guess that it just shows that these arguments are just opinion anyway.

I like Rosa; he's a very good player to have on our list.

Do you mean lose Lycett to FA? Don't think he's eligible, isn't it 10 consecutive years? So Rosa and Butler were the 2 that were eligible, Rosa has re-signed and I thought Butler signed a 2 year deal last year?

Outside of FA you can lose players, at any time, to trades.

All the highlighted are not better players.

Embley was, but not at the moment.

Darling, Gaff and MacKenzie may leapfrog him come seasons end, but again not yet.

Waters gets a lot of love but is overrated on output. Lynch at his best is structurally valuable, but closer to a bit player.

I love Butler but he just is not fit often enough to be in consideration.

Rosa was in our top 10 last season based on output, even if on the edge of it.

Last year Rosa demonstrated that he's capable of becoming a regular solid contributor. He's a great kick, and a good runner (isn't he one of our fastest over short distance?), and his footy smarts will continue to develop. I believe that he could be an important cog in the development of a genuine premiership side.
