He doesn’t mean that I think. It’s more that it was so frequently not operating. For anyone. I used to live in Port Melbourne, could see the thing from my home, and drove past twice daily. It was kind of bizarre to never see it actually spinning as you would expect from a big Ferris wheel tourist attraction
Is that whole part of Melbourne where Costco and the shopping complex (Waterfront City) struggling?

TBH i actually wished she didnt do this. the assumptions these models rely on (ie compliance to restrictions) are pretty much shot. Im no expert, have no knowledge, and know sh*t, but i'll be stunned if next week is NSW's peak the way things are still tracking right now

I know people want it, and transparency is good, but ive lost faith in anyones ability to predict this thing right now

When we know why the policy setting is chosen, we can measure both the advice & implementation.
All along people have been calling for certainty, its not realistic.

Next to the water in a part of Melbourne that no one visits is exactly where you would put a open air shopping centre in

That's my issue, we can't insist on certainty of how a pandemic will act

Birrarung Marr would have been the best spot for it. I think everyone thought it was in a crazy spot to begin with as there is nothing interesting to see
That was the point from n00b developers, ING Real Estate, who developed that train wreck of an area and shopping centre.

They had a "If you build it, they will come!" ethos, but it fell flat on their face and left plenty of unfortunate business operators in their wake.

Admittedly, then fact that it cracked early and needed to be redone didn't help with any potential pedestrian flow to the area, but their vision of the precinct basically being the next Southbank was always off the charts deluded in my opinion.

I think so, yes. There were big plans for docklands but they were executed too quickly and very poorly. It’s become one of my least favourite parts of a city that I otherwise love

I doubt Costco is. The Moorabbin one is always chockers. Certain ethnic groups (not a criticism, just an observation) seem to love to buy in bulk.

So do I which is how I know.
Not this one I think. It’s a very dead area for some reason.

I always felt they were trying to insert Darling Harbour into Docklands but it was never going to work. There simply isn’t enough fine weather to make it work.

A truer statement was never made by you, Bruce. It was an ordinary idea, and then executed horribly. Melbourne gets a fair few tourists, but nothing built at docklands was ever likely to pull them away from the Paris end of the city or, for the more daring, Fitzroy/Carlton areas.

The Southbank is likewise a poor area of melbourne with little to offer outside of the casino with those that like that kind of thing. Got away with it a little bit better for location plus gallery and Hamer hall etc are there

Those posters are heavily outnumbered by Labor fanbois, by what seems at times a ratio of 100:1, who regurgitate LWNF propaganda in the SRP forum ad nauseam. I admire their tenacity in sticking around for as long they have and contribute as often as they do because they even cop abuse from moderators and even the site owner chimes in to give them a good whack from time to time.

There is simply no comparison in the amount of conservative opinions that are espoused in this forum to that that are favourable to the Labor parties and left wing ideology; LWNJs are more or less left to run amok and practically do as they damn please whereas conservatives are kept on a very short leash and banned or suspended frequently.

A large part of it it's because the site owner and moderators are blatantly 'progressive' and have a higher level of tolerance for trolling abuse by those that share their views, you have to be blinded by partisan hackery to deny this.
Incorrect.

Its a footy forum and Melbourne is the home of football.
Therefore you get predominantly Melbournian opinions.
The vast majority of which are informed and intelligent- you friend are the vocal minority.

Can’t understand how anyone would object to vaccine passports. They will enable a significant numbe of the population to lead relatively ‘normal’ lives. Obviously it has to be run properly- you can’t have the audience vaccinated and the players not. Players, performers, workers in certain professions etc - all have to be vaccinated. It will protect our health system. I’m ready-bring it on.
We will 100% need a vaccine passport.

The R_eff in Vic atm is 1.98. it has jumped to that from around 1.01 a few days ago.

You'd hope it's a temporary spike caused by the protests or a couple of super spreader events, because otherwise we are looking at 10-15k cases p/d by early October. Point being we will need to heavily regulate relaxation of rules to those vaccinated.

Lygon Street has been decimated by Covid.

The two biggest issues for Docklands was placement, which created a wind tunnel and failure to directly connect it with the city during the early days.

Also a little less exposed to the cold South Westerly.

True. But I don’t think the weather is the primary issue. It’s more that nothing whatsoever was built there that you can’t get elsewhere, better and even with a bit of history, vibe, culture thrown in

Yep-down the track it can be relaxed but definitely needed from now, indefinitely.

Carlton is a brilliant suburb, it will recover.
I’ve got faith in the best of Melbourne. It will all recover. We just need to hang on a bit and minimise the dead from this hideous event. Melbourne I still love. I’m not even Victorian but I can’t see myself leaving
