Vic How would you rate Daniel Andrews' performance as Victorian Premier?

Despite the 'crime' wave' that the Libs will go on about, can't see Andrews losing government.
Do the Libs still have enough candidates to stand as don't really know of many apart from their whiny leader.
Think that Greens in Vic will get stronger.

And besides, when the time comes for questioning at the 2018 Victorian Leaders TV debate, it'll be interesting to see how Opposition Leader Matthew Guy handles the question not so much about crime-which is the Liberals bread and butter-but more about the economy, in particular how they would handle the unemployment rate if it goes up without warning, and having to deal with the fallout in case the 2019 Federal Budget is like the 2014 version, or how to cope with the building of the Melbourne Metro Rail Tunnel. Oh, and then there's the small matter of industrial relations (ie unions v employers) they have to contend with as well if the Coalition wins power in 2018.

David Davis is the worst deadwood. Answerable to no-one and just incites anger and violence amongst the community. Has absolutely no moral compass, decency, or respect for anyone.

You sound a lot like Tony Abbott.

Any chance of some substance to your arguments instead of throw away one liners?

So you're a firefighter then?
David davis is nothing but a condescending a-hole. Like you said cares only about his own interests and is the king of inciting anger with his ridiculous sky rail arguments in particular. Is a very bitter and resentful person., there might be a video on youtube somewhere of his pathetic sour grapes comments when interviewed after napthine lost the election about east west link.

We are what? 2.5 yr into a 4 yr term not inly are lxr s underway but the metro tunnel too and the Andrews govt is thinking about further projects

Same time in Bailleu Napthine era they were....thinking about first set of projects

Not doing things also pisses people off see: Failleu and Naptime.

At this point I think the problem is that the voters are just whiny arseholes who want everything 10 mins ago.
Agreed.

In Australia in particular.

Voters confuse social issues (crime) with infrastructure issues (road/rail/stadia) and think it can be fixed within one term of government - it can't. Social issues usually take a decade or so to actually "fix" or to see the results of a "fix" - the short term solutions are usually wallpaper over cracks which rear their head twice as worse in future generations.

They did put up a sign at the future southland station, but that fell off the fence unfortunatley!

They dusted it off and used it for the next election. I fully expect them to dust it off again. You can't say they didn't get their moneys worth out of that marketing. ;)

Would it be fair to say that the Coalition were so stunned by the results of the 2010 Victorian State Election, they were completely unprepared to handle the transition from Opposition to Government? Which could explain the reason why for example how to handle rogue MP Geoff Shaw, plus the fact their federal counterparts gave the Victorian Liberals a 'hospital handpass' with the disastrous 2014 Federal Budget handed down by the then Treasurer, Joe Hockey, which gave Labor all the ammunition they needed to ultimately win the 2014 Victorian election.

I don't know what the reasons were, but the Baillieu Government did not walk into the Ministerial Offices in December 2010 with the authority that the Andrews Government did four years later. Baillieu kept the existing public service structure and hierarchy in place, and this was only changed when Napthine was elected. In contrast Daniel Andrews barely waited a day before sacking the Secretary of DPC when elected.

The approach to Geoff Shaw was related to the parliamentary arithmetic. Once he was outside the Parliamentary Liberal Party, the public service was worried about an possible constitutional crisis at any stage. And also, to be fair, Nardella and Languiller are essentially not being handled any differently or better, despite the fact that Shaw was accused of rorting about $5000 while Languiller is accused of rorting about $37,000 and Nardella around $200,000.

The die was cast well before the 2014 Federal Budget.

Baillieu's harshest critics were the liberals themselves, and the infrastructure firms who eventually started relocating staff to other states, following federal money.

Even the Bracks govt took some time to get its building agenda underway

We just can't afford this in future. IMO a govt contemplation taking over the Treasury benches needs to convince voters they can seamlessly take over and not get into ideological nonsense

Shaun Carney raised an interesting point in the Herald Sun today, when he said that the years spent in opposition (whether it's Labor or the Coalition) would be on focusing on putting together an policy agenda, so it's ready to be put into action once an election is won and and they are sworn into power.

Instead what Matthew Guy and his Coalition team are doing is be critical of the government at every single moment. They should be giving out reasons why they should be voted into power, and what their plans/policies will be when they would be elected if they won the 2018 Victorian election.

They should be outlining how they can manage the agenda generated by people much more qualified than they are

Trying to second guess the Melbourne metro plans was a case in point

Also rushing through the contract signing for the East-West Link during the last election in 2014 was a clear indication of total panic by the Napthine government because they knew if they lost the election Daniel Andrews would tear up the agreement, when what they really should've done was to wait for the election results, then if they had won (which they didn't), the contracts would be signed once they were sworn in.

Does that sort of thing usually take place publicly? Like the actual government's preparatory work before announcing something like the budget or the Regional Rail improvements?

If you're not inside, you don't know what is going on. And this is demonstrated by almost every incredibly naive observation and inane question you ask in this forum.

I just can't trust the Libs to build quality infrastructure after they cut costs and rushed through the construction on the regional rail link just to say it was built on time. Sitting on buses for months and months while they replaced the VLocity wheels is the exact opposite of what good infrastructure looks like.

They all need to lift their game significantly.

The libs need to convince people they wont mess around for 18 months after being elected. theyll probably win the one after next

The looming problem that could be a major headache for Matthew Guy, and a early Christmas gift to Daniel Andrews, is if Corey Bernardi and his Australian Conservatives Party decides to field candidates in every seat at the 2018 Victorian election, which could split the Coalition vote and give Andrews more of a chance to return to power.

Here another major headache for Matthew Guy:

Now to be fair this is only just a natural evolution of Coaliton MPs attending fundraisers with alleged gangland figures prior to the last election ;)
Could be worse.
