Hows this!

This is what I believe the AFL should do.
there should be the 16 teams in the league and always 16.
There should be 4 Victorian teams, 3 South Australian teams, 2 Western Australian teams. 2 Queensland teams, 2 NSW teams, and one team from Each Canberra, Tasmania, Nothern Territory.
This way it will be more like the AFL, with the 6 state and 2 territorys competing.
The teams should be split up into two groups. eg.
Group 1.
Essendon
Carlton
Adelaide
Sturt
Fremantle
Brisbane
Sydney
Wellington

Group 2.
Collingwood
Melbourne
Port.Adelaide
Westcoast
Ipswish
Paramata
Canberra
Darwin

The teams in group 1, will play eachother twice each and the teams in Group 2, will also play eachother twice each. Then the teams in Group 1 will play the teams in Group once.

At the end of the 21 Rounds, The top team from each group will finish 1st and 2nd with the team finishing 1st, beinging the team with the most points and percentage. For the remaining 6 teams they will go in order from 3-8, with the teams finishing on more points (percentage if needed) finishing higher on the Ladder. EG.

Essendon wins group one with 76 points.
Port.Power wins group two with 68 points.
Essendon will finish 1st and Port.Power will finish 2nd no matter what. Then the reamining 6 teams will be placed from 3-8, with the most ammount of points, and possibly best percentage, if two teams finish on the sam amount of points.
Then The Finals system works as usual, with 1-4, 2-3, 5-8, 6-7. etc.
WHAT DOES EVERYONE THINK OF THIS?

lol it only an example mate.
I know it would be very hard to get 5,000 members for Ipswich but prehaps we could cancle them out and throw in another NSW team.

More likely that in time the 6 non Vic clubs will leave the AFL and form another League. Maybe called the Australian Football Championship (AFC) and invite a Canberra and Tassie Team with four Vic clubs in (which they would no doubt jump at). In affecting a new competition the old AFL bad management would be culled in a single blow along with the other garbage inherited from the old VFL (including the stupid colour clashed Guernseys that can't be changed for away matches  )

In priniciple it sounds like good idea, but as i mentioned, all the clubs and the VFL/AFL has so much history and tradition that it will not change.

If a breakaway group was to form, it would totally ruin the game, just look at what has happened in the Rugby League.

Thing's should be kept the same as they are right now. If a few Victorian sounds have to relocate, so be it, but still keep their old traditions like the South Melbourne relocatioin. At first, that relocation looked liked a disaster, but look how good it has become now.

It's not good for the South supporters in Melbourne though.

maybe not Same Old's but they didn't have much of a choice.

At least those supporters still have something to cheer for, not just another team. When you take traditional teams out, you take the passion out of the game.

IN the end, football is the loser.
