Kim Hughes was a fantastic player, unfortunately for him he was beaten into submission by the West Indies for most of his career.
Today with everyones obsession with statistics it is very easy to forget about great players like Hughes.
I would of loved to have seen him on these batting paradises for a career without the pressure of captaining a side that is losing every series 4-1 or 5-0.
Langer for example has been a great player in his era, he will be regarded by statistics as Arguably the greatest Bat out of WA, he is certainly up there but in my opinion Kim Hughes is by far the superior player.
As for the best XI since world series cricket
Mark Taylor
David Boon
Ricky Ponting
Greg Chappell (C)
Stephen Waugh (VC)
Alan Border
Adam Gilchrist
Shane Warne
Dennis Lillee
Terry Alderman
Glen Mcgrath
Unlucky Bowlers : Craig Mcdermott, Geoff Lawson, Rodney Hogg, Bruce Reid, Brett Lee, Jason Gillespie
Unlucky Batsman : Kim Hughes, Mark Waugh, Bruce Laird, Mike Hussey, Justin langer, Mat Hayden, Michael Slater.
Others : Rod Marsh and Ian Healy both far superior wicket Keepers than Gilchrist, Once upon a time they were Keeper Batsman. Gilchrist changed it to Batsman/Keeper. We are seeing it now with Wade who is an average keeper. Gilchrist through his batting must be in the side.
Honourable Mentions to Jamie Siddons ( No tests) Unbelievable he did not play a test match. Freak batsman who must of pissed off the wrong selector and of course Brad Hodge who is another freak player, lucky to play a few tests but again must of pissed off the wrong selector.
No Matter who you pick in any of these types of sides it is arguable. Each to their opinion I guess.
