Yeah I cringed while reading that article. He talks like we have 1-2 good years left before all our players retire of old age.
Quite obvious he wanted to write about Malthouse and Buckley and that was the best he could come up with....

Pies don't have the luxury of the AFL CEO forcing other clubs to not pick a certain player in the draft (Tony Lockett) so that he would go to Sydney. He should have been fined for draft tampering back then.

If he gets to Collingwood great if not such is life.

I think most Pie fans have not stated that he WILL definitely be a Collingwood player. We remain optimistic however realistic.

It is the anti-Collingwood fans that are stating categorically that he WILL NOT be playing for us and that come Thursday it will be very funny.

I didn't explain myself to well there. I meant when Lockett came out of retirement not when he originally went to Sydney. He came back for a few matches and retired not long after. The CEO warded other clubs from picking him up.

We should have put Luke Ball in for fake surgery or something. Make it look like he injured himself training and get the media to take a few snaps of him going into hospital on crutches or something, have him coming out looking really dejected etc.

I agree, this would have improved our chances of drafting him... May breach some ethical standards though...

This is the type of thing I thought we did with Jurrah. Bring him close to assess him, and then create a "go-home" situation which would scare off other clubs. It didn't work though (unfortunately).
