Nothing new here really.

Dees are going to consider him as are Essendon and Brisbane.

I'm sure the Dees will consider several players at picks 11 & 18. It is widely reported the draft becomes very tough to separate the draftees after picks' 10/12.

Dees definitely won't take him with 11. In all likelihood Carlisle, Aaron Black & Daniel Talia will be available.

It'll be pick 18 if anything.

Whilst someone may bite the bullet before us, none of them want to do it without the interview.

Robson, Voss, Connoley...all shaking the tree via the media.

Funny to watch.

This.

lol what a joke these clubs are... Draft someone who wants to play for your pathetic clubs.
Be fair; if Melbourne could only draft players who wanted to play for them, their National Draft selections would be worthless.

Might be prudent to recall Vossy's trade week. If Ball doesn't want to come north then that may well be his problem. Can't see Ball being around at 30 though, sorry.

Major bluff here by Connolly.

He needs to understand he is no longer the man in charge.

As he said, Bailey will "rubber stamp" the final call and he seems like the type of person who doesn't want players that won't play for the Melbourne jumper.

Don't worry about the clubs or people making "all the noise".

It's always the quiet ones you need to be worried about.

Exactly - fear the Lions if anyone. Voss wants a prem bc after brown, fev and black are gone he is no chance.

He just might risk it all for Ball.

In saying all that, big risk to take a player that you haven't medical tested or spoken to. 500k for 2 yrs and you don't speak to them beforehand......brave!

i can't believe clubs would consider drafting a player that doesnt want to play for them? to win premierships you need players putting in 110%.. extra training sessions, busting their gut for the club, throwing themselves mercilessly at the ball (especially players in ball's mould).

If i was ball and i got drafted by essendon, melbourne, or brisbane (assuming i didn't want to go there), well i'd just go there.. and play at my own leisurly pace.. and i'd get my $500k.. yeah i'd play as well as i can but i certainly won't be the last to leave training or the first to arrive..

But Ball is not quite like you, Nardz. Ball is, by all reports, of outstanding character. I cannot see him doing this.

I wouldn't...I'd eat all the pies & end up looking like Straunie

an outstanding character who is learning alot about the value of loyalty. got screwed by one club already and the system isn't allowing him to get to the only other club he has interest in.

i'd just be worried about setting myself up financially to make sure life after football will be taken care of :thumbsu:

The problem with doing that is what happens in year 3?

By not being 110% committed, you are just proving that the Saints were right and you are not worth a long term contract, the big bucks and are not a star of the comp...who would want you, then at 27-28?

He is better off busting his gut, proving everyone wrong...

1 - he knew all about "the system" before he put himself into it

2 - financially, he gets his 500k regardless of who he goes to. But his next contract will only be high if he contributes to a high level. He won't do this by not putting in his "110 percent'. The best financial outcome for him is to work exceptionally hard over the next two years and get another good contract.

He may have known about the system, but he didn't exactly have a few leagues to choose from. Saying you know about the system you enter into, therefore don't attempt to change it, is a recipe for being screwed.
How does anything ever change if it is not challenged?

$1m later.. who cares really.

he'd probably take a significant pay cut in 2 years regardless, wether or not he stays at the same club.. and who knows he may actually end up somewhere he wants to play..

Such a shame that we may miss out on Luke BALL.
i do know one thing for sure, there will be a big push for Free Agency in the coming years especially if essendon ,Melbourne or Brisbane pick him up.

If that does happen at least we have helped push Luke's value of 500K .
He will get a nice pay packet over 2 years.
In hindsight i suppose for us its a no win no loss situation again and we should pick up a strong kid in the draft.

Here is where it will come back to bite ,Essendon, melbourne or Brisabne if one of them picks luke.In 2 years time, either of those clubs will have severe salary caps issues whereby any of their young guns will want more money to stay.Say some like a Daniel rich (BRISBANE) or a Tayte pears (ESSENDON) or a Tom Scully (Melbourne) .

The problem that particular club may face is that by having to pay Luke BALL 500K per year (over 2 years) they may not have enough in their salay cap to hold onto one of those young guns, then other clubs will swoop !
Then hopefully one of thoise clubs will be collingwood.Imagine snaring a daniel Rich or Tayte Pears or even better still someone like a Tom Scully in his prime ,when we could easily throw thousands to aquire any of those players into our existing side.

Draft picks will be hard to aquire at that stage ,so clubs will have to trade off ready made players for high picks and finishing down the bottom won't benefit many sides, liker it has up until now.

Just read Brisbane posted a 600k loss so hopefully that means the board pours cold water on Voss' spending spree and play for Ball.

I can't see Melbourne going for Ball at 18 despite the hooplah. Seems like they're trying desperately to call Ball's bluff to get him to respond to them.

That leaves the Bombers, but they seem pretty crapulent about not being able to assess Ball so we are still a chance.

Melbourne are posturing to keep the restless natives happy

Essendon started whinging last week about it being unfair so they are out

Brisbane cant afford him and never have been able to afford him

We are way more of a chance then a 1000 to 1 that i heard today

Richmond and North Melbourne i believe are our biggest threats. Melbourne are bluffing, Essendon has already got on the wrong foot with Luke Ball and Brisbane wont be able to afford him

Richmond are going down the youth path and i believe hardwick has already said they dont want or wont draft him

North has more then enough inside players, so they dont have a need to draft one that wants to be elsewhere

i know this is about luke ball but im wondering if melbourne are still interested in bradshaw they need a big forward more than anything.

Doubt it. I am sure they have told Mcdonald that they will draft him in the preseason draft
