Far from a rumour, just a Collo pipe dream to Kane Johnson in brown and gold... Nonetheless, a pretty decent bit of work in my opinion.

Curious what supporters of the prospective teams involved would think if it did get off the ground.

*Hawthorn give WCE Chick + 2nd Round pick.
*North give Adelaide Carey.
*West Coast give Hawthorn First Round pick.
*Hawthorn give North WCE's First Round pick.
*Adelaide give Hawthorn KANE JOHNSON.

What's gained?
-Hawthorn: Kane Johnson
-North Melbourne: First Round Pick
-West Coast: Daniel Chick, 2nd Round Pick
-Adelaide: Wayne Carey

What's given?
Hawthorn: Daniel Chick, Second Round pick
-North Melbourne: Wayne Carey
-West Coast: First Round Pick
-Adelaide: Kane Johnson

Remembering that the Carey to Adelaide, Chick to WA and Johnson to Victoria are all effectively a given, and that North have came out and said they'll take nothing less than a First Rounder for Carey... looks like a win-win for all involved.

Thoughts?

Hawthorn getting done, Kangaroos probably too, considering WCE's relatively poor first round pick, West Coast doing amazingly well.

Hawthorn get Kane Johnson, a good player and only 24 but has played less than 40 games in the last two years and 98 after debuting in 1996. He has been prone to injury so could be considered a risk.
West Coast's first round pick is number 10 so is not all that attractive to North.
Adelaide get a forward who may or may not suit their immediate plan. His injury woes are also well documented and Adelaide may struggle to get 2 incomplete seasons out of him.
West Coast get a pick number 24 and a forward who had a less than satisfactory 2002. However he finished the year off in better form than he started and his poor form at the start could be attributed to the trauma caused by the loss of a finger.
All in all, the whole thing seems an unnecessarily complicated trade that would only work if all parties would be satisfied. I believe Adelaide would but North are not coming out well and I know if I held the contract for one of the mst effective players in the AFL I'd want more than a late first round pick.

Hes played 37 games in the last 2 seasons - hardly the pedigree of someone who is injury prone.

From that deal - we get off pretty good i reckon, hawthorn and Adelaide are about even get off about even, while North are down, but seen as though North have little bargaining power, that would be expected.

A top10 pick for an old player with maybe 2yrs left in him, who's guaranteed to leave traded or not. I think North do pretty well in this.

IMO hawks are the worst off here. They lost Chick+2nd rd pick for Johnson. Chick is arguably better, why throw in 2nd rd pick too?

I would much rather Kane Johnson than Chick. I think Hawthorn are level cause Johnson is a very underrated defender. Similar to the type we need at the Eagles, but he would never come here unfortunately.

North won't trade Carey for Pick 10...

Better go back to your drawing board...

Do the Kangaroos actually have any say in all of this at all or are they in the position that they HAVE to at least get something for Wayne Carey?? I mean, if they don't try to make a deal, Carey will simply go into the draft and the clubs can all negotiate a deal meaning the Kangaroos get nothing. Is that how it works or can someone please explain the Kangaroos position in all of this??

Cheers!!

If they don't work out a trade, Carey goes into the Pre-Season Draft where the first pick is determined by a lottery between the bottom 4 clubs (Carl, St.K, Rich, Freo)

Therefore he would most likely NOT end up at Adelaide like he or Adelaide wants. So it in his AND Adelaide's best interests to give the Roos a good deal. Sure, the Roos would get nothing, but Adelaide wouldn't want this to happen either.
