Human Race - How Long?

My comment about animals that you quoted was about how they dont engage in reason

Animals don't engage in reason? So how does the prey of another species determine fight or flight without reason?

All consciousness matters as an end in itself, its just that humans have far more consciousness then most other species).

Yeah but the impression you give is that it's an either or, this line is inconsistent with your 'animals don't engage in reason' or 'only humans matter' mantra.

Jesus christ what are they teaching at schools now?

why the hell would you think the earth is doomed and its somehow fair if it is?

humanity is the only thing of value and save for facing a degree or two of warming the earth is fine. in fact humans are about to go on a mass reforestation period over the next 200 years

the only thing i worry about from the earths perspective is a nuclear catastrophe. But again its not the earth that actually matters but the humans that exist on it.
Didn't you start a thread entitled: "Humanity is in its last days. Its just a question of how we end?"

Duuuuuuuuuuuude...

Now the future is here and it ain’t a pretty thing”

40 years ago, 5 musicians joined forces.

They saw that the world was on a downward spiral. That society was no longer evolving, what we were experiencing was in fact de-evolution.

Mankind was regressing…. We were destroying the planet. They believed that the world was dominated by greed and consumerism and that the planet would ultimately be destroyed by the only species that couldn’t live as one with their environment. MAN.

I dont think you understand what evolution is.

Fight or flight is an intuitional response. Not one made by reason.

and on the second point its because we dont want to waste time putting down all the caveats all The time. Its time consuming. We just put down the main point in a quick but slightly simplified way. Its consciousnes that matters And relative to humans most animals are extremely lacking in consciousness.

First point fair enough, regardless it still takes consciousness for intuition though.

As you've admitted animals are conscious beings, caveats aside whether you like it or not coz it's time consuming.

Originally you've made the point that only humans matter, and now you've conceded that animals matter somewhat only for our existence - they still matter.

You've also alluded that animals don't have a conscious, only humans do, and since you've conceded that they do albeit not the same level as humans, non one is arguing that, regardless - still a consciousness.

We're going around in circles here.

It actually doesnt take consciousness for intuition. Intuition evolved before consciousness did. Read a book on neuroscience. Its really fascinating stuff to learn about how the brain works. It really helps provide so much understanding about what we actually are and why we behave the way we do.

On the second point what im trying to get at is consciousness of each species is not equal and therefore the value of each species is not the same.

if a human is 100, a chimp may be 80, a dog 40, a bird 5, reptile 2, fish 0.5, bug 0.001. only a very few species are self aware and the range of emotional experiences is extremely limited in most species. Given there arent that many chimps on the planet then its really humans that provide the bulk of the earths consciousness. Thus the reason i simplify to "its humans that matter".

You didn't allude this originally though, and like I said no one is arguing the non equal of conscious levels between conscious species.

Your original assertion is that only humans matter, which is false, and you've conceded as much.
