I'm posting this and wondering if its just me or not but are geelong their supporters displaying less and less humility as the time goes on and forgetting that they had a 44 year drought between 1963-2007 with a heap of lost grand finals?
For me, the club and a few of its supporters who I know personally were cocky and arrogant going into yesterday and are even worse today. If it was me I think I would be more thankful for yesterday rather than "expectant" as they seem to be.
Karma's a bitch cat supporters... don't forget where your club came from and how hard of a slog it was to get where you are because it's a long way down.

I have a sister who's a cat fan, has been since she was born. Rang up pretty much right after the result to hang shit so I hung up the phone.

So it does take all sorts to have a moment of madness where insetad of celebrating their triumph they somehow feel the desire or need to belittle everyone else. They are lesser people because of it though, so I'm not all too fussed how they go just as I'm not fussed not listening to them or walking away. They can say what they want, in the end they're not supporting their team, they're merely there to piggy back off the success like leaches.

Can't speak for every other Cats supporter, but I'm still in shock about yesterday's win. Seems very surreal to me. It was going to be heartbreak for whoever lost yesterday. I certainly don't take this for granted, because I know this may not happen for another few decades. St Kilda supporters can keep their heads held high because your club has had such a brilliant season. If anything, you guys should be optimistic about 2010.

I think most sensible Geelong supporters know they were pretty fortunate to win yesterday and have been pretty humble in victory. Both Thompson and Harley were quite gracious with their comments after the match and won a lot of respect in my view. Most of the Geelong players took time to commiserate with our players too before they celebrated with each other, which was good to see.

At the end of the day, we outplayed them for a lot of the match but they just took their opportunities better than us. Almost a carbon copy of last year when the Cats had most of the play but didn't take their chances as well as the Hawks.

It was just one of those games where there was always going to be an unlucky loser. Unfortunately it was us but you can't begrudge the Cats winning either, they've been a great team for the past three years and know how to win the big games. Their greater GF experience probably got them over the line in the end, they kept their composure and took their chances and we didn't. Hopefully we will be better for the experience next year if we make another GF.

Commiserations Sainters. It was a close tough fought match, you would have been equally deserving to be this year’s Premiers. Unfortunately there could only be 1 winner. There’s no question you have a classy team and coach representing your club and I’m not looking forward to the type of punishment your mob will unleash on the rest of the competition next year.

Trust me Saints, I have nothing but ill wishes for those Geelong supporters that troll and abuse. We were lucky to win yesterday's match and in the end it came down to converting our opportunities. What round 14 and yesterday proved is that there is very little between our two sides. The Age today suggests we could be starting a Sydney-West Coast style rivalry which would be an amazing thing for Victorian football.

Try to ignore the Geelong trolls as I tried to ignore the Hawthorn trolls last year, when all of the Hawks I knew in real life were gracious and complimentary towards my team.

You lost in very similar circumstances to us last year so believe us when we say we know what you're going through. It hurts, and it will hurt all summer. But I saw the resolve on Riewoldt's face, and I heard Lyon's impressive post-match conference, and I know that you have some wonderful leaders around your club (Riewoldt, Hayes and Goddard at the top of the list). You don't necessarily have to lose one to win one - look at Hawks 2008 - but history is filled with teams like North Melbourne 1998, West Coast 2005 and Geelong 2008 who bounced back from heartbreaking GF losses to win the flag the following year.

I can tell you I was shocked we were favorites and all week , and my stock standard answer to all an sundry was "may the best team win" - which to alot of supporters of all clubs was considered sarcastic and arrogant!

I for one am an unabashed Saints fan and leave right in the heartland and have had to listen to very confident, yet very realistic supporters hope their side pulls off the big one. This time it wasnt to be

Wise words. We need to improve again next year if we are to make a GF. They are just so hard to reach. So many many variables. I really like Ross Lyons approach with regards to the ultimatum he gave the boys. We're were a bit unlucky and didn't take our chances but that takes nothing away from the Cats. It was a great win and the Cats deserved the flag. We were not good enough. I can't stand supporters who look for excuses like umpiring etc. I'm talking about the Bulldog supporters who keep whining about the Prelim.

I was standing with some Cats supporters and they were very gracious in victory as we were in defeat. As much as I'm thrilled (and also shocked) that we won, I'm gutted for Saints fans. You guys have an awesome team, and will surely be back next year. Good luck, already can't wait for our next encounter.

I've got nothing against the Saints at all. They are a great side who play hard but fair footy; better than almost all others (Particularly certain great sniping teams such as Hawthorn and the Dorkers).

You know what vc, there were at least an equal number of cat fans guilty of that same offence over the same time. But, as with those uncharitable saints fans, I'm guessing most were bandwaggoners. For cat fans, the join date is a giveaway.
As for non stop media, it's easy. Dispose of your newspaper sports section. Don't watch any TV news and eschew radio sports stations, all for just a week and basically it's over!

i have nothing but respect for the saints - really gutted you were our opponents because had you been playing anyone else I would have been on your side.

What you guys acheieved this year is amazing and i hope all goes well next year. at the end of the day it came down to a 50/50 ball in the middle of the park and it bounced our way - not for anything more than a bit of luck.

Just weighing in to also offer also offer sincere commiserations to Saints supporters.

It was an epic grand final (featuring the 2 most deserving combatants) played in a spirit of fairness in the lead up week, during the game and in the aftermath. Kudos to your coaches and players on a fantastic game and an awesome season.

I went to the game prepared for a knife edge clash, somewhat comfortable in the knowledge even if we went down - we were matched with the best side over the previous 25 games. There was also a some comfort in the sense that even if the Cats went down - Saints were overdue for the joy we experienced in 07.

Today I found the photo in the paper (of Kosi resting his head on Roo's shoulder) quite emotional - an iconic image that reflects the pain of the present but holds hope great hope for the future. Memories of Gary Senior's Norm Smith medal, and his ultimately failed quest to the side over the line in my first GF attended 20 years ago (to this weekend) came flooding back.

I don't think you'll be waiting that long - you have classy players, a disciplined, well executed game plan: hang tough through the heartbreak and it becomes the most formidable force of all.

FWIW - I actually think the Cats were advantaged by being 'hunter' entering the last quarter. At times it was like watching Russian Roulette - wondering when the one in the chamber would arrive.

When the time for GFC to hand over the mantle comes - I only hope it's to an act as classy as was the STKFC this weekend.

They might be simple, country type folk , but they're not all that bad once you get to know them (god knows my sister is one of them).
