Interesting - well at least now we will find out who is running the show at Essendon - if Hurly plays forward it is Hird driving the team if Hurley plays back Thompson is the puppet master.

My tip is Hurley to Walker in round 1.
Not really, Thompson would have wanted Hurley back this season as well but he played forward all season, Hird even said in a press conference that it will be hard to move Hurley forward because he is so good down back.
where would you want him to play being a Bombers fan?

I reckon Thompson is correct because there is doubt in my mind any player who comes into the system and has been given an opportunity to play multiple positions and then plays decent enough in defense, it's going to fast track his development as a player two-fold.
Countless defenders make the transition to forward effortlessly because they gain tremendous awareness, concentration, judgement and more importantly...get inside a forwards head so Hurley back for another 2 seasons and he will be quite a dominant force at both ends by 2015.
I honestly think the only thing stopping him from having a year like Taylor Walker has this year is his overhead marking, however if Gumbleton can get fit I would probably want him in the back line.

After only playing 2 good games as a forward in 2012 it will be hard justify moving him forward in 2013.

Walker leads him in much more areas than just over head marking.

His kicking for goal let him down a lot at the start of the year, probably about 5 good games if he kicks straight, but yes, before you say it I know that's not a good enough excuse. He did play well against you guys though.

I'd have him down back personally.

He was Ok in the 2nd game and kicked 2 very good goasl after getting beaten by Firrito in the 1st game.

When they switched him to Cloke he looked so much more comfortable and his aggression was 1st class. His marking and his timing as a CHF is out and he is better sitting on somone that will take him to the ball.

Back maybe - his hands are not good enough to be a star forward.
Not that Hurley has had a wrist injury all season >_>
His marking is one of his many strengths.
Walker is a freak.

His wrist has little to do with his timing - he runs under the ball too often - he will be better when taken to the ball. Carey had shoulder problems his entire career - champion's don't need excuses.

Did you just call him a champion? :\ he's an okay forward, might be very good one day, no champion though.

I called Carey a champion. Carey had terrible shoulder problems and still became one of the greatest of all time. No excuses required.

He is playing out of postion to fill a need. Daniher or Gumby coming good will send him back and we should see the best of him - sore wrist or not.

Still, why are you comparing Hurley to Carey?

Because you posted that Hurley could not take more marks as he had a sore wrist - Carey had sore shoulders and still took marks. The sore wrist comment is a poor excuse for a player that does not have great hands. He is a copmpetitor however and that is why defence will suit him better.

Haha any chance you can get, not going for that bait squire. It was cute however.

Some of the posts earlier in the thread are hilarious. However it does show how fast Walkers rise was.

I think Walker quiet comfortably. I think he is already the 2nd best forward in the game.

He is also twice the player Tippett is.

I hate this kind of poll, because the right answer is an Essendon player - and anyone that disagrees instantly throws the BIASED! card at you.

But come on, much as I rate Walker and would comfortably slot him in at Essendon; Hurley is the clear choice.
The right answer is you are 100% completely wrong. The clear choice is the one that has performed at a great level - not the one we keep hearing will perform in the future.

yeah things changed over the year. I guess it's just impossible they could change again.
Hurley has zero chance of going past him as a forward. 26 goals is a poor return. If your hands are not good enough you should play in the backline. Hird gave him a full year - he failed so it is defense time.

For someone who's been proven wrong on many occasions you sure do revel in other posters incorrect predictions.
Who did you vote for? I did get something wrong this year. I picked the Roos to finish 7th. On the flip side I did pick Essendon to finish 11th. Bang - that just happened.

I doubt anyone would have taken Walker at the start of the year over Hurley, however now it's pretty obvious who to take.
I voted Walker when the thread was created, guess that's as I am a neutral and can compare the two in a fair and balanced manner.

Yeah I got in on the first page too and nothing I saw by seasons end changed my mind. Walker is a gun. Just think, if Neil Craig stayed, Tex may have walked.

I was quietly hoping that Geelong would have been in a position to have a big go at him at the time.
