Not really, Thompson would have wanted Hurley back this season as well but he played forward all season, Hird even said in a press conference that it will be hard to move Hurley forward because he is so good down back.Interesting - well at least now we will find out who is running the show at Essendon - if Hurly plays forward it is Hird driving the team if Hurley plays back Thompson is the puppet master.
My tip is Hurley to Walker in round 1.
I honestly think the only thing stopping him from having a year like Taylor Walker has this year is his overhead marking, however if Gumbleton can get fit I would probably want him in the back line.where would you want him to play being a Bombers fan?
I reckon Thompson is correct because there is doubt in my mind any player who comes into the system and has been given an opportunity to play multiple positions and then plays decent enough in defense, it's going to fast track his development as a player two-fold.
Countless defenders make the transition to forward effortlessly because they gain tremendous awareness, concentration, judgement and more importantly...get inside a forwards head so Hurley back for another 2 seasons and he will be quite a dominant force at both ends by 2015.
