Walker easy.

Hurley needs to find a spot and stay there - not sure the switching between back and forward is great for him.

Has shown glimpses but still needs consistency - love his aggression but while talented personally think he is still a bit hyped up.

They settled him at CHF - he played 99% at CHF 1% at CHB. It just did not work as his marking is not good enough.

Not sure if it's true or not but I seem to recall reading/hearing somewhere that Hurley would be switched to the backline in 2013 (with Daniher obviously coming into the forward line) - is that the case?

Unknown at this point.

The Herald Sun ran an article a couple of weeks ago saying Hurley was to be a defender, but the HUN (the geniuses they are) pulled down the article when they realised Hird was talking about Michael Hibberd and not Michael Hurley.

Lol - that's probably where I read it. Thanks for the clarification prosecutor :thumbsu:

Once again you try to make 1 + 1 = 3.

What is not adding up for you? Alot of Essendon supporters want him to go back as well. If he had a year like Walkers - not 1 supporter would want him at CHB. So the fact that there is a debate about where he plays shows that his year was not good enough to be an automatic lock for a forward spot. Not sure what you don't understand but it is very straight forward.

He is definitely an automatic lock for a forward spot, the thing that has people questioning whether he should go back or not is whether he will have more impact down back or forward and whether Gumbleton and others can cover him.

Although Daniher will be a gun it still might take him some time to settle. Hurley Daniher and Crameri could probably play in the same forward line which would release Ryder to ruck or roam the field. It's a good dilema to have and depth is great. It means they don't have to rush Daniher in and can let him develop and build confidence with some performances in the VFL. Long term he might move to CHB but for 2013 will probably still play a Mr Fixit hybrid style role depending on match ups and how the game is going.

This one isn't even close. Walker is a superstar, Hurley is a ?

Hurley could become one of the games best key defenders, if not the best, but he's simply a crap forward.

Exactly, Robbie Tarrant is almost a better forward than Hurley. Doesn't mean he is anything special.

Hird would be crazy to play him forward again - Essendon will get more value out of him at CHB. 84 marks 26 goals is a poor return.

Petrie should also go back

3x in 12 season has got over 30 goals in a season.

Was that because Petrie was played a lot in the ruck and now we don't need him too? Anymore crap years like 2012 will be a waste of what maybe a good back man. When a players hands are ordinary they might be better suited punching.

LMFAO.
You would play 1 of the most competitive players in the game, 1 of the most promising KPF in the game as a defender.
Start Watching him please, you may want to be educated on the topic if you are going to compare him to another player.

Isnt this what essendon has done, but he plays all the time down back so cant kick the goals ect as excuses.

Adelaide have been much better this year. Hurley isn't going to be able to compete with Walker until the Essendon midfield (and team) stops breaking down for the second half of of a season and stays competitive for longer.

he was still well underperformed when your midfield was in form.

he was still well underperformed when your midfield was in form.

Bags of 5 and 6 in two consecutive games coming off a hand injury (and having to wear a glove), he was breaking out with career highs just before Essendon started toppling over suffering injuries and big straight losses (starting with St Kilda).

And even then he was occasionally going back and contributing all over the field. He's generally been the one to set up goals and structure the forward line in place of others. His game wasn't just based on goals but all-round field play. Anyone who's watched him would know this.

Unfortunately, he was missing again for a part of our losing streaks due to injury, but by the time he returned, despite almost getting us over the line against North in the second half of the year, Essendon was already to FUBAR'd by that point.

You really can't compare Adelaide's top four consistency and delivery to Essendon's crash and burn season. I think a fitter season for the team, including Hurley, and a more focused role up forward will do a lot for his performance next year.

1 thing I find regarding Hurley is, He is such a competitive beast we don't need to convince people of how good he is going to be, just give him a bit of time and he will become a elite player of the comp. Don't bother defending him, like Jobe he will get there and we will have a mighty fine player on our hands and than we will have alot of threads to bump.
