At this stage most pundits are saying Carlton will take Marc Murphy with pick 1. If this happens I think at this stage I would prefer to take the next best player which could be Shannon Hurn followed by a couple of KPP prospects in Josh Kennedy and Pat Ryder.

I think in Murphy and Hurn we get two no.1's. Hurn is very very highly rated as a skillful playmaker with courage, ball winning ability, leadership, footy nous and penetrating left foot. I've heard comparisons with Luke Hodge and Cameron Ling which is pleasing. At 188cm and 92kg he has the build and presence to be a force in the centre for a while.

Josh Kennedy sounds like a big old workshorse who covers a lot of ground and can play as either a genuine CHF or genuine CHB. He takes pack marks and is probably a player we really need as you could build a side around someone like him. He has grown to 195cm and is already a strong 93kg which makes him very tempting.

Pat Ryder is a bit of a mystery for mine. All reports point to a very good athlete capable of anything. He has played ruck and a little bit in some key positions. He to has grown and is now 196cm and around 90kg. He COULD be a very good KPP prospect and a part-time ruckman. Maybe he would play a similar role to that of Richmond's Troy Simmonds as a mobile key forward and ruckman around the ground. I think Hurn and Kennedy are safer options at this stage.

Are these 3 the most likely or do others think we might go after someone else like a Dowler, Clark, Jones, Swallow, Birchall, Drum, Hughes or even a key defender in Lucy?

Why do you think the Pies have dropped off of Xavier Ellis then?

Personally, I hope we take Murphy & Hurn as I think they will be the best two players. We have holes all over the ground, so to my mind it doesn't really really matter if we go big or small, just pick who we think are going to be the best two players available.

Many pies fans seem to have jumped of ellis - wouldnt mind him if he somehow dropped past both the pies and hawks.
prefrences in the draft would be
1.Murphy
2.Ellis
3.Kennedy
4.Hurn

I know that is what most people think will happen but if we are asking who we want at four might aswell go through our top four prefrences - anything could happen!!

Paddy, i think you will find Hurn is a right footer.

I have my reservations about him.
Physically bigger than players his age,
Similar in build to Mich Hahh,
can kick the thing
but moves like a glacier,
played in the forward pocket/bench for Centrals in the GF,
and didn't look quick enough for that.

Needs a huge pre-season,
as he plays KP in junior footy,
but isn't tall enough or mobile enough for the big kids.

If we pick him, i hope i am wrong.

Hurn or Swallow?

I hope we go for Murphy and Hurn because Kennedy will be gone, but if he did survive to pick four the club would probably draft him in a heartbeat.

Any chance we'll pick one out of left field and draft Swallow at four? Apparently has pace to burn yet he is still an in and under player who gets the hard ball.

Re: Hurn or Swallow?

Hurn will be taken by Collingwood @ 2.
Kennedy will be taken by Hawthorn @ 3.

We need to make the decision between Ellis, Ryder, Swallow or even Clark.
My money is on Ellis, as I think we have project KP forwards/rucks.

Exactly ... the same as many blues fans have Murphy as a lock for #1 and the same 3-4 players as possibilities for #4 ... we all might be very suprised come draft day when we find out that it's not the fans who make the decisions!

At this stage, i'm still deciding between Hurn and Kennedy. My only reason to favour Kennedy slightly is becuase we have drafted mids with our first picks in the past 2 years. We need another KPP desperately and would love it if we could get both these guys to Carlton.

I think Kennedy will go at three, after Murphy and Ellis. That means its a choice between Ryder and Hurn in which case we should definitely go for Hurn as he seems a guarnteed solid player and a good in and under player something which we desperately need.

You don't think that Hawthorn will take Ryder? Given that Everitt won't be around forever, this is there chance to pounce on a very mobile Ruck/Forward.
