A bit of summertime fun... Alot of action in the coaching ranks last couple of years. Luckily we are quite stable in that department
Let's assume for, some reason, we were to look for a new coach. Who would you go for assuming all were available.
An innovative game stifler like Lyon or Roos? A returning messiah like Hinkley or Sanderson..Maybe a new kid on the block? Maybe get Bomber to return?

Humour is welcome, but don't flame me. This is Purely Hypothetical and not meant as criticism of CS;)

Backpocket. Has to have more than one premiership medal. Not from Geelong.

BMac. Does great things for the Doggies over the next 3 years and comes back to where it all started for him.

Gets Lingy, Smithy, Dasher and Sando back as well….

Scarlett, Milburn, Mooney, Ling or Knights. I think Milburn would be perfect.
I don't. I heard on the grapevine that he was pretty pissed off with the club after not being played in 2011.
I think Cameron Ling would be ideal for the role, especially if he gets an assistant coach gig with another club beforehand I can't see Scarlett every wanting the limelight of senior coaching, and Moons is too passionate and emotionally, sometimes a coach has too be cool, calm and collected.
But Cameron Ling with Scarlett, Boris, Max Rooke and Stevie J as assistants I can definitely get behind. Maybe Harry Taylor will be there too.

The Cats like to look outside the club for coaches so I don't think it will be Ling or McCartney.

I could see someone like Maxwell or Lenny Hayes heading into coaching and Maxwell's from Geelong, but who knows?

Scarlo might not like that appointment. :p

If Maxwell became coach of Geelong I'd be shocked. Apparently his dad sent tapes to the club desperately trying to get him picked up by us (much like Max Rooke's dad) and we showed no interest. I remember after they won the flag his dad saying something about Geelong maybe regretting it now, but we showed them in 2011.

Let's look at the main Geelong people currently at other clubs:

Sanderson - always admired him, eve since I heard him interviewed on radio in 2010 and thought, "He's got to be our next coach". If Adelaide improves in 2013, Sanderson's value will increase too.

Milburn - great football brain. Not sure if he wants to be a senior coach, but would welcome him back at Geelong anytime.

Hinkley - Like Sanderson's first year at Adelaide, Ken's first year at Power was a revelation.

McCartney - never played for Geelong, but a Geelong boy through and through. Seems to be suited to a club with a young rebuilding list. Hopefully we will never need him then!

Lingy - Depending on when we need to appoint the next senior coach, the Mayor of Geelong will hopefully be the man, and have the runs on the board as an assistant to help him take the next step.

My money will be on Lingy as senior coach and either Sanderson or Hinkley returning to perform a Bomber Thompson support like role.

Where is the precedent of a 'Geelong person' becoming senior coach?

Billy Goggin - did his apprenticeship at Geelong West, and then Footscray.

Apart from the early 50's Geelong has never had such a sustained period of excellence as 2007 - 2013. I'd be amazed if that success has not or will not rub off on the assistants and players who were part of that success
