Hypothetical: Pick 1 for Buddy

Realistically the AFL have got no hope with GWS, the WSW in the A-league will kill AFL hands down Buddy or no Buddy ,it (GWS) will become a moneypit to keep them going in years to come I don't know why they are bothering.Look at the ethnic makeup of that vast migrant population ,Africans ,Middle Eastern ,to go with the already strong presence of English and European influence ,none of them could give a toss for the AFL soccor is and has always been like another religion to them. The AFL has got to give up this pipe dream of making the AFL a worldwide sport and the only code played in the country ,it just won't happen,As much as we love it, it is really ever only going to be big in Australia in the already traditional AFL states VIC,WA and SA and TAS with minor participation in NSW and QLD... nothing wrong with that.I just wish that for once they would look after the clubs first that made it this big at it is now and forget about expansion unless they are talking Tassie .

Gate receipts is merely Beer and Burger Rings money. GWS and Gold Coast are purely a geographic necessity to have the optimum 'product' for the media rights deal. That's what they're all about. Given the Roubles that the AFL squeezed out of the networks based on revenue projections that were way too optimistic, trouble is brewing. Couple that with whatever gets dished out to Essendon and the potential flow on effect there and the triggers in the deal, and we have a fun situation ahead. 'Expansion' when the AFL use the term should really have an asterix after it, like this.

Expansion teams*

*not to be confused with real teams, that people actually support. Teams that capture the heart and minds. Nay, expansion purely relates to the expanded media product generated.

Realistically, yes I'm in agreement with both of you. Tankers of money will be shipped in for this *concept GWS. Unfortunately this small pawn or rook being Buddy..is going to be prized out of our hands and that really give me the shits. We're helpless to it in a way because the money is just too good. I just hope Buddy does the right thing by the club on his way out when he puts his GWS jumper on and helps the club out when the deal is being brokered. This will be television viewing.

GREATER Western Sydney has not ruled out using the No.1 pick in this year's NAB AFL Draft to snare superstar Hawthorn free agent Lance Franklin.
The GIANTS have had discussions with Franklin's manager, Liam Pickering, with a $10 million package over six years reportedly on the table, although not yet the subject of an official offer.
With that sort of offer the GIANTS would almost certainly be able to acquire Franklin as a restricted free agent in October's free agency period, with the Hawks highly unlikely to match it.
Asked on Thursday whether the GIANTS would use the No. 1 pick they currently hold to trade for Franklin, GIANTS list manager Stephen Silvagni said "anything's possible".
"It might be free agency if he does decide to become that free agent or it might be a trade situation," Silvagni said of the GIANTS' means of securing Franklin.

Gws have 20 top 10 players ready to go and don't want anymore kids. Pick 1 is on the table 100.

I'm hungry so let me cook up a deal.

Brown and Darling to GWS
Franklin to Eagles
Pick 1 and either Adams or Whitfield to Hawks

Great deal for West Coke and us but can't see Silvagni trading Pick 1 and Adams/Whitfield for Brown and Darling

Who is Freeman?

Any relation to Cathy?
Knightmare rates him as the best midfielder in the draft on the draft board, despite him being rated as a 10-20 pick. Here's his write up of him.

Nathan Freeman (VIC – Mid)Height: 181cm, Weight: 85kg, DOB: 16/06/1995
Recruited from: Sandringham Dragons
Style: Patrick Dangerfield/Luke Shuey
Player comparison:
Range: 10-30
Profile: Absolute dynamite midfielder and in my view outside of Jack Martin I strongly believe Freeman will become the best midfielder in this draft class. Other than Patrick Dangerfield and Chris Judd no player even compares with what Freeman does in the contest from an explosive standpoint. Freeman as Dangerfield does wins all the contested ball and is an absolute clearance machine but he’s a guy who has that rare combination of inside game and extreme explosiveness with his pace, agility and sidestep all as good as you’ll see. In addition to that explosiveness Freeman has a real hardness to him with the way he attacks the footy and contest. Also features of Freeman’s game is his ability to take grabs overhead and his 1v1 ability. He can push forward and hit the scoreboard in a big way particularly enjoying those finishes on the run streaming into goal or running to the 50 and going long for the goal. As well as this he’s also an excellent field kick to a target with the ability to hit his targets over a variety of distances knowing his limitations but also at the same time doing some big damage. In short this guy has all the tricks and other than Jack Martin is that only other midfielder I see as a genuine game changer. To improve Freeman needs to improve further his hands in close and become more of an inside distributor by hand instead of just jamming into onto his boot in close, so he does need to be more aware of what is around him in traffic in those situations where he can’t just burst away. Additionally he also needs to add more of an outside game so that he can find more easy ball outside the contest to boost his disposal numbers.

Anyone that thinks Hawthorn aren't cooking up one of the biggest deals in history and are simply going to let Buddy walk for a pissy compensation pick musn't be familiar with some of our recent work at the trade table.

Our club owns the off season and we will do it again this year.

It pains me to agree with a Cats supporter, but sadly he is 100% correct!
WHY would GWS trade pick #1 to Hawthorn for Buddy when there is no reason to?!

Pickup Buddy for nothing & keep pick #1 to trade for other star players, OR trade #1 to Hawthorn for Buddy.

If that trade was possible i'd say sign the deal NOW, but it's just not going to happen :(

There is one thing that potentially colours this and that is the AFL marketing money. If this is offered, then it is possible that something else has to go on the table. As stated in other posts, with big ambassador money this is not a straight free agency deal that Hawthorn can compete with.

I think that if Buddy cares about Hawthorn and wants to leave, he'll demand we get adequate compensation. Tbh I think if GWS get him, then they couldn't care less what they give up. If Buddy makes this happen then he stays in my good books regardless of whether he goes or not

This is what I see happening. Buddy agreeing to go to GWS but requesting fair compensation for the Hawks.

I predict Buddy staying, us trading for some young player on an AFL list that we all have to Google the name of, who becomes a very serviceable player at Hawthorn. The Gunston mold, but this time a midfielder.

Damn I hope I'm right.
