Hey guys,

Sorry if this has already been done or asked, but how do you think we would have fared if the 2001 AFL draft was done differently and Judd went to Hawthorn instead of us? Who would we have picked up, and I know its a hard question to answer but would we have won a flag without Judd? As I have said, very hypothetical but I wonder if Luke Hodge would of left us aswell.... saying that I wouldnt give back the 2006 grand final for ANYTHING :)

We would of picked up Hodge, Bartell, Johnson, and Dane Swan instead...

And all would still be playing with Kerr, Cousins and a fit Cox.

There was a lot of pressure on us to take a tall at the time. If Judd was gone, we might have gone that way and taken Polak.... jesus.
It was probably Judd's display on Polak at CHB that swayed you.

Absolutely murdered Polak that day. Plus the fact that he was and remains the player of his generation.

No flag for you had he not been bought over.

Hodge or Ball (whichever one was remaining).

Judd, Hodge, Ball were seen as the clear standouts of that draft class by recruiters.

Woodhouse also said as much in an interview on radio a while back IIRC - it sounded like he rated Judd the highest of the 3, so even if we had pick 1 - he said he had a bit of extra 'freakishness' than the other 2.

Obviously we draft Hodge/Ball and everything from 2002 onwards would be very different (butterfly effect) - Ball would've stayed in Victoria in 2002 to finish of his schooling and Hodge was drafted with OP, started a bit slowly before starting to hit his straps from 2005 onwards (still wasn't near the level Judd was at during his time with us).

We would'n't have won the 2006 premiership, but it's possible we could've won a later one.

Is it likely that we could be in a Judd/Hodge/Ball situation with Gaff/Polec/Heppell? I wonder if we'll look back on this draft the same way. I hope we don't pick a Polak this year!

Holy shit!
Some of sabre's comments have aged very, very badly.

"Cox: and Simmonds are on the same level, adequate ruckman at best that will never take the competition by storm"

Also called Hunter a hack. And said that Polak could be the next Carey.
