A 2018 second rounder is hardly a packet of twisties, IMHO.

If next years draft is half as good as the hype, then an extra pick in the 2nd round could be very handy.
Sam Mitchell was pick 36 in 2001.
Last year this year's draft was being hyped. It happens every year. Then every year there are only a few gems but all the talk is about what is coming next.

We would be stupid to trade players now for future picks. If we are rebuilding we need to do it now. While we still have Burgers and Rough and Chip and McEvoy.

He's not a pure midfielder, he doesn't have the tank dusty has, he'll end up more of a jake stringer type player. He runs a 12 in the beep test which is absolutely miles off what is needed to be an afl quality mid
Gee is that right. A 12 is really poor given these kids have been doing these tests for several years moving thru the ranks towards draft day.

This years draft was being hyped as very ordinary last year.

There's no obvious number 1 this year. Not a strong draft hence our decision to relinquish our 1st round pick in the Jaeger deal. Next years draft is a bumper though. Would need to be a seriously good player coming our way to let go next years 1st rounder!

Pup's year as been ok despite his injuires and won't be getting traded
Getting weary of reading about how he should be out the door
Im sure after some of the reviews were done last week there would be a few more worried than Pup
TBH I think the majority of the list over 26 should be worried.

This Whitfield chap from GWS isnt this the same one who had to serve a ban for some lying about wheraabouts for not being avalaible as part of Asada requirements
Imho im not that excited
Yeah but that was for doing rec drugs. If Lachie likes to drop some pills on the weekend then I dare say he wouldn't be Crusoe on that front.

I acknowledge this is probably stupid and I have a soft spot for him but Hallahan has been delisted by GC and I wouldn't mind giving him a rookie spot

There are good players in this years draft.
Not a stack of tip 10 talent but plenty that can be squeezed into the 15-25range... that's still pretty good pickings if other clubs fail to identify late first early second Rd talent.

Id be taking a punt on getting a couple of picks if I had the chance to draft a Sicily, Hardwick, Burton this year & have those players identified... which the club would have.
The punt would be if they think that their guy will slip through & that plan B would be there as well at the same value.

Based on zero inside knowledge, but reading / listening to lots of speculation, our trade season might possibly look something like this:

Poppy to GWS:
- Poppy plus pick 33 to GWS for pick 24 plus a future 3rd?
Balic to Hawks
- Pick 43 to Freo for Balic?
Hawks trade a ready-made player to a contender for youth:
- Stratton plus a future 4th to Richmond for a future 2nd?
Fagan rates Whitecross for leadership
- Whitecross and pick 61 to Brisbane for pick 42?
Duryea is UFA.
- If he leaves we can hope for a 3rd rounder, pick 44.

Out - Poppy, Stratton, Whitecross, (maybe Duryea), plus Hodge and Gibbo.
In - Balic

Picks:
24 - Best available, hopefully a tall.
42 - match bid for Jiath?
Others - hope GW can find a late gem like Poppy / Morrison etc.

Next year we would have 5 picks in the first 3 rounds, plus hopefully cap space for Tom Lynch.

Thoughts?
You saying Poppy is worth more than Stratton. I guess in the end it all depends on needs but would of thought Stratton would be more valuable

Hypothetical:

Brisbane gives: Josh Schache, pick 41 2017

We give: Jack Gunston, Taylor Duryea, Kade Stewart

Gets a homesick youngster with massive potential closer to home, gets Brisbane off the bottom of the ladder very quickly.

Err... not sure how you got that.

In my guess, Poppy equals a GWS future third (probably pick 54) plus a slight pick upgrade this year. Stratton equals a future second with a late pick going the other way as a sweetener.

I agree Stratton would be more valuable.

The focus should be on getting lever and I keep hearing that we are lurking around him.
Personally I think clarko will have a look at players such as miles from Richmond and ahchee from port who are borderline 22 players that may just need a change of scenery.
Trade talk of gunston, breust and big boy has no substance.
Could possibly see either strats or frawley mentioned in trade talks but that is only due to the progression of sis, brand and potentially snatching up lever. If we dont get lever I think both strats and frawley stay.
Duryea, Whitecross and poppy are as good as gone. The first two possibly as DFA and poppy either goes to gws or back home to port.

As someone else above said there's no way Gunston is being traded, to valuable with being able to play forward, back and wing (to an extent).

Bruest is on long term contract so unless he wanted to leave, don't see this happening.

Smith won't be traded as we need run, apart from him we have noone decent on on the wings, unless you consider Hartung and Henderson at his level.

Only players the club would trade would be Poppy, Birchall, Frawley and Stratts (currency + age)

I would prefer to trade out poppy and one of the 3 mentioned above to either get a young promising player or to upgrade our existing draft picks or for next years picks. Other than that doubt anything else will happen, as we already shown we have enough youngsters to re-start our rebuild and push for silverware.

Maybe a FA next year will help with that, so there might be someone we are targeting there- if this is the case it means we won't need to waste any picks on this player.

Doubt we will be super aggressive this year as next year might be a year to consolidate our game plan, putting more games into the younger players and generally allowing and promoting natural growth in our list.

If we were going to be aggressive i see it being during the 2018 trade period, as we will be looking to push for top 8/4 in 2019.

Just my 2 cents.
Like I said guys, I wrote it in here because of the circumstances. I NEVER said it's 100% true, I'm new to the site, I used to use it under a different name, but I want to be known as a credible source. That's why I put the conversation I'm Hypotheticals! I realise most of the players I listed are contracted and a trade needs there consent. I also known Clarkson can be ruthless at times. When I mentioned KEY FORWARD that's what I meant. Is Gunna a key forward at 87kg? The Key forwards these days are close to 200cm. I put Roughead and Frawley in the KPP are because of there strength and weight. Just because they're 193 cm doesn't make them a key position player, is Birchall one?
To get high picks you need to give up talent and the talk I heard was getting into the first round this year and getting future picks for next years draft. If I can confirm it I will. But this page is about hypotheticals yes? I don't know if my contacts were informed of these names or they're were throwing them around. Personally I think Brisbane was mentioned because they want this year and next years 1st rounders from them and players over 26-27 make sense. Also Fagan knows our players better than anyone.
Personally if we could trade to get Rayner or maybe a Dow this year and go into next with the lions 1st and the Hawks 1st which would've lost some high end players, I'd imagine we could target a rankine and a King twin. The more I think about what I heard the more I can deal with losing a Gunston, Breust , smith players with currency. That's how we will get our next lot of superstars through the door. So don't have a go at me for writing a hyperthetical that actually has some substance apart from alcohol behind it.
I thought sharing on this page is what was wanted. Am I wrong, because I can piss off quite easily! Also just because I might see the benefit of it and favourite players have been mentioned. It does remind me of the croad and McPharlin trade and we know how we came out of that!
Also not directed at you snoref, was just a notification that came up first Go Hawks
