Lets say channel seven lose all their rights to Live AFL from now on.

Would they be allowed to screen old games - srely they have paid for the rights to that already ?

And remember Ch7 denied the 'footy show' permission to use any footy footage at all (even sam newman in a Tutu at half time)

Will Ch9 take revenge for this ?

On the subject of footage generally - I seemed to remember that the entire VFL / AFL archive is now owned by AFL Films which is a joint venture between the AFL and Channel 7.

Don't know how Channel Nine would go about getting access to this material but I guess they will have to pay a license fee to AFL Films and that will cost a fortune.

No way around it though - I don't honestly think you can have the broadcast rights to a sport without also having access to archival footage.

For starters - what on earth will Channel Nine do on GF eve ?

As for your question about the likelihood of Nine taking revenge on Seven, it's about the same as the likelihood of someone making a nasty comment about Hawthorn's colours, on Bigfooty during 2001.

heard an interview with tony peake the other night about this. as i understand it the afl own all the rights to the footage after 1985. before that it is owned jointly by ch7 and the afl.

BSA, i believe ch 10 will be showing the gf, it will be interesting to see who does the gf eve shows and what will be in them.

It would be ridiculous if petty politics and ego's prevented us from viewing archive footage, which should be our basic right. It was filmed with the purpose of being shown, so hopefully, common-sense will prevail and the old footgae will be able to be screened.

I can see this being the biggest war on television. Do Ch7 own a huge part of Colonial? I'm on the understanding that they do, therefore can they put the 7 logo on the boundary fence behind the goals? It would be interesting seeing Ch 7 advertising on Ch 9.

Interesting you say that Aussie_Roo. The huge windows above the 3rd level with the massive 7 logo will stay, so CH 9 / 10 / Foxtel will have to get smart with their angles to hide it!

Then again, they may cover it up with virtual advertising!

Yeh this can be a real bummer,over here for the Rugby Sky TV(owned by Murdoch)has the rights to England's rugby games but they can't show any archive footage as its all owned by the BBC & it really sucks on game day when u watch the build up.I hope it doesn't happen to u guys over there(F@cking TV companies really piss me off)

What is going to happen with Colonial Stadium now that Ch7 has been kicked out? Will no games be shown from there or will all games be played back at Waverley as Channel nine has been a big forerunner in the quest to bring it back to AFL status?
