If another club, say for instance Richmond, was on its death bed, completely white-anted and cash strapped, would you buy a membership if it guaranteed seeing them go on and continuing the rivalry??

I guess the same happened with Fitzroy... did anyone buy, or consider buying a Fitzroy membership when they were drowning??

Not unless they were relocating. If football can't survive with 9 teams in one city without supporters forking out for memberships or donations to rival clubs, then its time a team or two moved. Harsh reality, but its the price we pay for having such a great national competition to follow.

It's a two-way street. I haven't seen much charity for Carlton when we needed it.

However, I'd give a donation - raffle tickets if they've got them - depending on the club. North & The Bullies would get support in a flash. Some clubs' members have been frenzidly kicking us while we're down these last five years and doing everything they can to make sure we get no support when we need it. And it worked - the AFL commission may as well have been made up of these people.

Now every club's supporters have been on our back (with justification) but the ones baying most for extermination have been St.Kilda's. I wouldn't kick them when they're down, or start campaigning for them to be wound up, but that doesn't mean I'd help them either.

Essendon have come out and publically stated that they'd like to help us raise money, When Richmond were in dire straights - we held a legends game for them to help them raise cash - and now that were in that predicament, they havent done a flipping thing.

I think i'd do the same. Us Victorian clubs have to stick together, and if that means donating money to the enemy, then so be it.

For the record I probably wouldnt, as if I had the extra cash I'd just buy another Demons membership. If my club was secure like Essendon or Collingwood in terms of membership I might think differently though.

When Richmond had the Save our Skins campaign, i bought a membership, and did for quite a few years along with my Carlton one. Grew up in the old Richmond recruiting zone and most of my mates barrack for Richmond, so i actually got value for it too.
Would have no dramas doing it again either.
