If the Cats continue on their merry way, continue to score big, and end up in the NAB cup granny as the higher points scorer, does that mean Skilled Stadium gets to host the final???

In theory, yes, but knowing the AFL if Geelong earn the right to host the final they'll play it at Telstra Dome, and use the almighty dollar as an excuse to do it. Hell, if we hosted the semi against Fremantle at TD last year, how the hell would we get the final played down here?

Yeah you're probably right in that the AFl would make us host it at TD. but the reasoning of generating more $$ is a rubbish. I think GFC earns more money from a capacity Skilled Stadium than a capacity TD anyway so that excuse would be weak.

That said, if we did earn the right to host the final, would anyone object to having it played at TD rathan than SS?

I think Winty means that the AFL would want to make more money for themselves, not for GFC.

Spot on mate! :thumbsu: It's the same thing if we earn a home final in the real stuff....we play it either at TD (like in 2000 vs Hawthorn) or the MCG (like in 1997 and 2005). I just wish the AFL was like the NBL. If you earn a home final you play it on your home ground, regardless of capacity. It's like we're getting penalised for still having our own home ground.

If we had a home ground that could host 60,000 people, there'd be no issue. But we don't, that's why the TD, MCG option is always the first port of call. If we become a powerhouse, which is vaguely possible in the long-term, then it's conceivable that K Park could be expanded and fitted out with lights etc to accomodate. But in the short to medium term, that's not gonna happen.

Yeah, agree totally. 2005 really **********ed me off - how do we host Melbourne at the 'G, where they played probably 15 games, while we played just 2. This is where I reckon interstate teams have too big an advantage.

The one that really irked me was when we played North under lights on a Sunday night in 1997, at a time when North were the night specialists, playing on their home ground in a timeslot where most Geelong families probably wouldn't have been able to go because of school and work commitments the following day. Brilliant fixturing by the AFL there.

That finals series was daylight robbery, we finished second and North finished 7th and they got the home ground advantage. Then we had to travel to Adelaide and play adelaide for gods sake.

Seriously if the final was between say Geelong anf Freo then the GFC would make more money down at skilled but unfortunately that ain't gonna happen. last year playing the final at football park was a joke even though we won.

I have no problem with hosting the game at the TD or MCG aslong as the profits end up in our pockets and especially if it is against an interstate club.

Otherwise the AFL can go and get ********ed.

Don't think we will be hosting it this year though even if we make it unless it is against Brisbane. We will struggle to kick 10 this week and more then likely we will have to play Freo over there next week if we get up tomorrow, though the game against Richmond has certainly put us in a good position.

Are you sure? As far as I'm aware, if we beat Port Adelaide we play the winner of Bulldogs v Bris Lions. You would assume that the Bulldogs would win that, so if everything goes to plan it looks like we'd play the Dogs at T. Dome next Friday night.

i think we have something very exciting to look forward to if we beat Port without King and Otto. The future will be looking even brighter!
