Richmond's fixture from rounds 2 - 5 goes like:

Western Bulldogs
Brisbane
Collingwood
West Coast

Yet on the return (Rounds 17 - 20) is

Western Bulldogs
Collingwood
Brisbane
West Coast

Why have our Brisbane and Collingwood matches been swapped?

I noticed it last Friday in the AFL Record and thought it was a misprint, but subsequent research has found it to be correct?

i think you'll find every few years there is swappage of rounds.

If you look you'll probably see that the Round 3 is inversely played in Round 19, and Round 4 is inversely played in Round 18.

Don't know why they do it, but they do.

I remember in 1996, the Round 8 matches were played again in round 22 and the round 7 matches weren't played at all.

i just went and looked at the fixtures myself, and they haven't swapped both rounds, they swapped the draws of the Bulldogs, Brisbane, Collingwood and Richmond.

So in Round 3:
Richmond v Brisbane
Bulldogs v Collingwood

In Round 4:
Bulldogs v Brisbane
Collingwood v Richmond

In Round 18:
Bulldogs v Brisbane
Collingwood v Richmond

in Round 19:
Richmond v Brisbane
Bulldogs v Collingwood
