Well, another season, another close miss. It is weighing me down!

This year I actually thought we were the real deal. I thought we were definitely top couple, maybe the best team in the comp. Adding Hall to our list would make us all conquering.

So wrong. It is just so disappointing.

We were well off beating the Saints tonight. We were extremely lucky to even be in the game after 10 odd minutes, and then after giving some hope at half time, got the flogging we actually deserved after half time.

I know there was no Cooney, no Higgins, and really no Morris, but there is no way we were going to win on tonights 2nd half performance.

It just makes last year and 97 all the more painful.

The only amusing part of today was when some Saints knob sung out:

"Yeah Bazza, you never should have left us!"

To which I replied:

"Cos he would have won all those flags huh!"

Too bad he got his own back when I cracked the utter shits just before 3 quarter time.

Let's just hope we have a MASSIVE clean out, and I mean MASSIVE.

Start with the obvious Johnson and Aker, and add Eagleton and Hahn. Also Tiller, Callan and Markovic.

Add a little Libba, Wallis as well as Moles, Hooper and Panos. A couple more draft picks too.

I guess the best thing is that next year, we should really be disappointed if we drop outta the top 4, given we aren't really losing core players huh!!!

At least our best players now have the best oppotunity to have a decent pre-season and take us to the promised land. There are no broken legs, etc...

I don't have the bitter anger I had after 97 or last year. Still a blown opportunity after the promising first half. We need to start to think about who is going to replace guys like Lake, Hall, Hudson, Gilbee and those in that 28-30 age group the next few years.

Yep a year that offered so much ending the same as last year getting tired of watching losing pfs but can see some good signs in our younger players ward addison and picken hard nuts coons grif and wood speed merchants Roughy in the ruck jones and grant (if he can build up ) up forward all have massive potential if a few of the older guys hang on we will get there sooner than later

7 prelim losses, the time for being sad has well passed.

Time for heads to roll

We wish... I thought at the start of the year it was said that nothing short of a grand final would be acceptable....

In a perfect world Leon Cameron would be appointed coach but he is going to hawthorn as an assistant

Yes more the same please. The last 3 years we've won more than we've lost.

We're all disappointed but we had injuries to key players and too man playing wounded. This year we've developed some good kids and next year we have another crack. All things considered to finish 4th again is a great achievement.

I agree with this, the sides that win permierships don't get injuries! It was never going to happen for us with the amount of guys we have out injured or playing injured..

But we still got back to where we were the year before. We can improve more next year and with a little luck I honestly think we'll be top 4 again. You need to be top 4 to win it and as far as I'm concerned the longer we're in the top 4 the more likely we win one. But its the change in culture sustained top 4 finishes are having.

Johnson's body was finished this year, but I think in the future him playing this year might be valuable. His leadership and insight may have impacted the young blokes. What a great champion he's been.

Exactly BWFC. Look at Collingwood, and how well they have played all year, and how much of a favourite they are going into the grand final. the only injury they have is Prestigiahomo. And Ball, but apparently it was just cramp.

We had Cooney and Higgins both not playing, our 3 key defenders all injured, but playing, as well as Griffen with a heavily strapped knee, and Johnson's ever lingering achilles. We have done EXTREMELY well to get where we got to. Even after everyone said we had no hope, we proved them wrong.

Im looking forward to next year now, I believe we can have another crack. Forget what the media "experts" say, we all know they are fools.

Dissappointing to lose another prelim final. We had injuries and the guys gave the best they could, but still another case of so close yet so far. The only consolation is that it wasn't as gut wrenching agonising as last year.

The really dissappointing thing for me(and this happens every year) is that it is the end of our season and we won't get to see our side for another 6 months or so. It is a real anti climax. All yesterday there is a build up getting closer and closer to a chance to be in a grand final, and today there is just emptiness.

I guess like some people, it will take a day or two of readjusting to life without football for a while.

we are a resiliant lot , us dogs supporters - we know the deal by now:(

we just have to yet again pick ourselves up of the canvass and go again !:)

We will win it sooner or later, and when we do, it will be SWEET !:D

Good post :thumbsu:

I'm feeling empty with our season cut short (again), but you know what, you're only beaten when you give up. Port Adelaide suffered the same pain in 2001-03 and it spurred them on to win the 2004 premiership and I remember feeling stoked for them.

And as always... GO DOGS!!!!

No plan B... This team should have made a grand final by now

Which of the recent grand finalists have we been better then? In 08 Geelong won 6 more games then us, in 09 St Kilda won 5 more games then us. This year St Kilda won a game and a half more then us.

Unfortunately the fact is for the last three years we have been a very good side, unfortunately Geelong and St Kilda have been better sides. In all 3 prelims we had a good crack, we lost to better sides :(

It was a great feeling to be in front at the first change. I thought we were playing pretty well though both sides turning it over.
Second quarter not feeling so great but we are still in front. Third quarter sick feeling seeing the season going down the drain. Final quarter bit numb, waiting for the siren and sending Johnno off. Too bad he didn't do a lap of the ground.
50 minutes away from making the GF.

All is not lost. I think we have a decent list that can get us there again next year. We had an up and down year with injuries & form, and next year we wont have to deal with that debacle around that player.

We'll have 2 players in the 30's - Hall who is in great shape and Hahn who needs to work hard over the pre season. The rest of the team is about to hit its prime age.

Keep your heads up.
