Bit of a surprise. No Skip but Bowden and Harris get a go.

The Western Bulldogs have named four youngsters on their interchange bench at final selection for Sunday’s match against Richmond at Telstra Dome

After losing Chris Grant (knee), Ben Harrison (hamstring), Shane Birss (eye) earlier in the week, Kieran McGuinness has been dropped from the team that accounted for Geelong last weekend.

Patrick Bowden, Brian Harris, Jordan McMahon and Sam Power are their replacements.

The quartet has just 32 games of senior football between them – 19 of those played by the classy McMahon.

Richmond has promoted Mark Chaffey and Kayne Pettifer at the expense of the omitted Chris Hyde and Royce Vardy.

Chaffey and Pettifer both missed the opening round due to suspension.

Hyde was a late replacement for the injured Duncan Kellaway before last week’s game against Collingwood, but was unable to hold his place in the side.

McGuinness is a bit stiff given he didn't get much game time last week. But I'd prefer him to play a full game at Werribee at this point than get 20 minutes of game time again.

We don't seem to have much info on the Werribee practice game last week but if Bowden was alot better than Skipper then I'm happy for him to get the nod.

We should get a good look at Skipper anyway as Werribee's on the TV on Saturday I think.

I agree that McGuinness was unlucky and also that it will be better for him to play a full game at the Bees.
Skipper will get his chance very soon

Yay Pats playing bout time have to admit though he may not have been playing if it wasnt Richmond.I thought Skip may have been unlucky not to be picked but im sure hell grasp his oportunity with both hands when he gets the chance.

If Bowden was selected because we are playing Richmond.... well that is just ridiculous. I doubt it though. Its a bit harsh to say its his last chance if he doesn't perform this week given his total game time would be very small. Maybe he was selected to float across half back to help out whoever gets the job on Richo, like Chris probably would have been doing...sob! Is Skipper more of a forward???

I reckon they probably have a specific role for Harris. It could be to play on Richo given his impressive endurance efforts over pre season or perhaps we will try and stretch there backline which when you look at it is not overly tall either. To be truthful I am as worried about the resting ruckmen as I am about Richo. If our tallest defender takes Richo then we have 185cm-190cm options for guys like Stafford who is 200cm+.Its going to be a big ask but hopefully the smaller ground will suit us and we will be able to get numbers to the contests.

Resting ruckman isnt a problem because ottens is injured.

Interesting that harris gets the nod over skipper. Id love to be at the game but at this stage doesnt look like Ill make it.

They still have Stafford and Hall.

Fortunately, neither can mark.
There not superstars but Stafford has been pretty effective up there lately and gave us problems last year from memory.10cm is a big difference especially given that neither Basset or Kretiuk have particularly great leaps. Now that I think about it theres a fair chance Harris will take the resting ruckmen.

I am leaning towards trying to test there height as when you look at it we actually have a taller side in.Its just a case of getting the balance right.I am hoping Wiggy and Bandy start deep inside 50 and leave all the space for Brown to outmanouvre his opponent (Zantuck probably?).That match up would play into our hands IMO.
