FFS. Who is responsible for B Cousins lifestyle - B Cousins or someone else?
B cousins. However it seems to me that the club knew he had a problem but did their best to help him sweep it under the carpet so he could keep playing for the club. Right thing for the club, hardly the right thing by the person.

Of course, nobody here knows exactly what's happened so we are all just speculating.

And a question for Juddyzthebest - How exactly is Ben Cousins a "poor guy"? Because he got caught ingesting illegal substances? Because he got suspended and will be deprived of a generous salary? Because he's disappointed the supporters that have stood behind him for years? Because he's thrown away something so many others would love to have even if they had it for only one day? I guess I don't see him as a "poor guy"! Please explain.
convienently didn't quote me, or mention how the media have been camped out the front of the parents house for the last 3 days effectively making them a prisoner in their own home, or how they have speculated on fletchers incident with no evidence to back them up... sure, but thats just their job

were the paparazi following lady di just doing their job?

the tabloids will never get any support from me.

Totally agree here :thumbsu:

The west is the worst, can you imagiene Ben waking up to the other days front page saying "yesterdays hero", i hate the media at this present time, they have made things even worse then they already were.

early last year cousins did an illegal u turn, stupidly, right in front of a cop.

now for you and me, this would result in a warning, at worst a fine.

instead this cop pulled ben over , called the media and would not let ben leave untill various cameramen had arrived and got their photos, he then proceded to warn ben about the driving and finally let him drive off about an hour later.

but yeah the media have had no contribution to ben's misery over the past year.
And your saying that's why Cousins started injecting himself with cocaine, because of the media interest? :p

I'm not picking on Cousins but to blame the media or anyone else (except maybe the eagles administration) for this issue is just idiocy.

so do you not think this problem has been exagerated by the media? do you think this would be a huge issue if it were a suburban league player? do you think the media attention is helping ben?

I don't always agree with the tactics of the media. Their job is to get a story or an interview or a photo. Exclusive material means huge $$$s & missing out on material your competition has means less $$$s in the long run. If 7 has video of Cousins leaving his parents home and avoiding questions and 10 does not, which news programming is the average person going to watch?
The speculation on Fletcher was based on something - rumour...whisper...inuendo...confidential source. I don't believe the media simply fabricated the story because their legal departments weren't staying busy enough to earn their fees.
And you bring up the paparazi. A swarm of maggots following celebrities and hoping to sell a photo hardly qualifies the paparazi to be clasified as members of the media.

Reading a lot of name calling here, as if his addiction problem was a conscious choice. Addiction by definition means you no longer have control of your life as far as the source of your addiction goes. That's one reason why it's so crap.

Also, it seems some here see BC as strictly 2 dimensional - Great player on field, abuser off of it. Like everyone else, there's a lot more to Ben than that. People who know him tend to say what a good guy he is, and speak of his generous nature. I've taken my 9 yo son to a few WCE functions for kids over the years, and every time he got a chance to speak to Ben, Ben paid attention and spoke to him as if he really mattered. A lot of players don't do that - some act like it's a bloody chore and it's heads-down-just-sign-the-autographs.

I don't like/condone the bad off-field drink/drug relate behaviour.

But I support the guy and hope he overcomes the cause of his misery.

The guy is a drug addict and has been suspended indefinately from his club.

Not this hasn't been exagerated by the media. Get you're head out of the sand.
