At least eddie speaks up and protects the vic clubs , who gives a stuff about the interstate clubs they are always going to get a free ride from the AFL , you know the saying jealousy is a curse ,
You can go back to your parochial suburban comp anytime you want. Not every Australian feels the same frisson of excitement that you do when you open the Melways.

I think the fact that they are controlled by a fat racist bogan means that most hate them.
You are a cheery, glass half full kind of guy - ain'tcha. What a sad/ugly posting history. I hope you don't have a significant other, progeny, nor a companion animal. The bill for SSRI's and counselling would be an horrendous impost.

My intention on this thread was to state that I didn't hate Collingwood (did a bit in 1990, but hated EFC players more (momentarily)), my venom is exponentially higher in regards (wrong terminology) of carlton, and it's servants (past, present, and most likely, future).

But please keep posting your negative sh1t, some peeps like it.

When you are a kid you get told to hate collingwood, Then you grow up and learn that Carlton are the real bad guys.

Accurate.

I don't hate Collingwood nowadays. I feel like I should, but I dislike Carlton and Essendon a lot more.

Might have something to do with the fact that the majority of my mates support one of those two teams.

You try and rebut his point that the AFL keep Sydney successful to maximise the rights deal...by pointing out how the rights deal would be much smaller without Sydney :drunk:

I category deny that the AFL try to keep Sydney successful at all

The AZfL lovechildren are GCS and GWS in that regard with their increased caps, plethora of top 10 icks etc

But... You do point out another way in which Collingwood is looked after by multiple Friday nights prime FTA exposure. Most big 4 clubs get this extra advantage and wasn't Friday night games originally requested by and given to another club? AFL finds this successful so advantages their favourite clubs to the detriment of the smaller clubs

Equality in action (again)....

I definitely hate Carlton the most, with Hawthorn a distant second. I wouldnt say I like Collingwood, but I certainly dont hate them.

I think I like more teams than the number of teams I hate. I really enjoy watching the Suns, Power, Swans, Dogs, tigers and crows

Well, of course I hate Collingwood - they're the 'enemy' (well, one of them):D. But, I don't really mind them as a club. They generally do the right thing by their supporters, they have been successful, they present a confident image for the fans, and they have a great history. They are a great football club. They seem to have a 'soul' - whatever that is, in a football sense.

When Richmond looked like going under in 1990, I seriously thought about who I would follow if Richmond disappeared and I wanted to keep following footy

None of the 1925-joiners (North, Hawks, Dogs) were attractive to me
Geelong - hard to do if you don't live there, plus it is really their club, and I think 'outsiders' don't really belong
Swans - running away from their supporters to $ydney? No way
Melbourne - dull, soulless
Fitzroy - on death row already, and rather pathetic in a sweet way
Essendon - their fans seem to support it like a pop group rather than a football club
Carlton - they really were the enemy, hugely successful, but no integrity - just a corporation, rather than a club.

I hasten to add, all of my knee-jerk opinions listed above are purely from the unrealistic fantasy world of football club supporting, and have no bearing on individuals at those clubs. Nor am I saying any or all of those could not be applied to Richmond. YMMV.

It would have come down, for me, to a choice between St Kilda (my Dad's team, but a joke of an organisation) and Collingwood. I think I could have done it.

Richmond probably seemed like a good compromise.

A joke of an organisation with a large supporter base.

How's that working out for you? :)

I don't hate Collingwood.

I think their fans don't quite understand how lucky they get it though.

A team that constantly whinges about other clubs advantages when they get 17 'home' games a year? A club that boasts about how good it is interstate yet plays less interstate games than any other, year after year? A club that whinges about COLA yet doubles it's pay to a player by tying it to a media deal? A club whose fans and coach publicly insult an opposition player? A supporter base that is infamous for racist taunts? Whose own president likens another player to an ape? The same president who called racism when his own player was called out by an opposition supporter for being a convicted criminal? A club who covered up an extraordinary high number of players testing extraordinary levels of HGH after a grand final? The same club at that same time making mysteriously frequent trips to a cutting edge sporting facility and scientists in Arizona on the basis of high altitude training? The same club mentioned by Mr Hird as a club with an 'advantage' that Essendon couldn't compete with?
Yeah, who could possibly find a reason for hating them!

I don't get the hate for the pies - don't mind them myself
Surprised that the bombers didn't finish higher
I also don't have an issue with Eddie - as a president of a power house club who doesn't have to kowtow to the afl we need his voice to speak out. Someone has to keep the bastards honest

Yeah, I don't hate Collingwood that much to be honest. That may come down to us having the edge over them in recent times though.

Interesting parallels between Maxwell and another ridiculed captain, Richie Vandenberg. Vandenberg never got to taste success like Maxwell, but he was regarded as absolutely instrumental in taking a list full of talented players who were all over the shop and leading them to a successful period. Coaches players and staff still laud Vandenberg for the way he lead our group up until his retirement in 2007. It was the very reason Clarkson went ape droppings at a journo who said that Vandenberg shouldn't be playing seniors(that, and he's a loyal and angry midget).

Maxwell copped a similar amount of abuse from opposition fans, although he's had a much better career and has remained absolutely respected by the CFC and quite a few at other clubs. Fans in the outer love to heap scorn on opposition players though, and most don't have the faintest idea as to what these guys do behind close doors, or the level of professionalism or input that they demand from those around them.

Sure, they'll always be someone who will say that Maxwell was a spud, or say that he was the worst captain in the AFL(as Vandenberg was too), but he had a bloody good career, and as a premiership captain he'll always be respected by the CFC for not only what he achieved but how he lead the club.
