Back in the 2000s three of my favorite sitcoms were Curb Your Enthusiasm, Malcolm in the Middle and The King of Queens.

My favorite CYE episode of all time is 'The Doll', where the bumbling Larry David attends an event at the home of a rich producer and his wife. While Larry's main problem at the house is that in being nice to their young daughter he gets mistaken for a dangerous stranger when the little girl innocently says that 'the bald man came into my room and started playing dolls with me', prior to this he also has a personality clash with an officious employee who tells him what he can and can't do in the most minor situations. Things only get worse when Larry finds out that she is not an employee but rather another guest, a friend of the hosts who has taken it upon herself to be grown up version of a hall monitor.

Likewise with Malcolm in the Middle one of the funniest episodes sees Malcolm's dysfunctional family go out to dinner with his friend Stevie and Stevie's family. While Hal and Stevie's Dad are similar in personality, the authoritarian Lois contrasts greatly with Stevie's meek, mild and non-assertive mother. This contrasts most when Stevie's Mom cannot find the courage to return a dish she was given in error, while Lois goes off her head and creates a massive scene in the restaurant when she finds out the four boys have been misbehaving and playing the forbidden O game.

What I didn't know until recently was that the annoying CYE lady, Stevie's non-assertive mother and Deacon's wife Kelly from King of Queens were all played by the same actress Merrin Dungey.

Deadwood 2004-2006
Jack McCall, the bloke that actually murdered Wild Bill Hickok, and another character Francis Wolcott, a serial killer, were played by the same actor, Garret Dillahunt. He also had a bit part in Deadwood: The Movie.
Dillahunt had long association with Fear The Walking Dead and Raising Hope.

I couldn't believe that Doug's wife from King of Queens is also the same woman intent on destroying the tax-dodging money cult she was once a part of!

“Where’s Shelly?”

She’s enemy No. 1 to Scientology.

For as long as she’s been doing this, I’ve been more and more of a fan.

'A League of Their Own' from 1992 is one of my favorite movies of all time, but I only recently realized that the role of one of the Rockford Peaches players Shirley Baker - an illiterate country girl - was played by Ann Cusack, who has many roles in film and on TV to her credit, and who is the sister of Joan and John Cusack.

The scene where Shirley is puzzling over the lists of the four teams and the list of cut players, confused and embarrassed with the coach in charge thinking she is a cut player who can't accept her fate before one of the other Rockford players Helen helps her is a very moving and well-done scene, helping viewers connect with these characters. Making it an even better scene is that the director, the late Penny Marshall, takes the time and care to show the reactions of girls who didn't make the cut. If you look clearly you see two girls walking sadly away from the list;, another girl sitting forlornly in the stands watching the girls who did make it as though in denial; and one of the other girls, a very pretty blonde in a red baseball uniform who is seen several times during the try-outs leaving with her mother, the older woman comforting her daughter who is crying.

It shows the amount of care and attention to detail by Penny Marshall in making this movie and why it is an absolute classic to this day.

You misspelled Brian in the Breakfast Club.

Also, he only played Rusty on the first film, the character was played by a different actor in every film.

Yep, was about to say this, surely far more famous as a lead character in a seminal film.

It also blew my mind.

One of my favorite viewing experiences from the 1980s was when some friends and I secretly watched the 1981 comedy film 'Porky's' despite being too young to do so at the time. Conversely, one of my least favorite viewing experiences of the 1980s was watching the sitcom 'Webster', a sitcom I didn't simply find not to be funny, but disturbing and depressing too.

But I never knew for decades after that the corrupt Sherrif from Porky's - he was also Porky's brother-in-law which explained why Porky got away with so much in the town - and Webster's adoptive father were played by the same actor, the late Alex Carras.

I had no idea how many movies 'Dr Cox' was in before Scrubs. He was in about 40 before Scrubs started. The odd one pops up on telly late at night.

Eg Point Break and The Rock
