Story goes she auditioned for Aliens without actually knowing what the movie was about. She saw the title Aliens and thought it was about illegal immigrants (an illegal alien is what they call them in the states). She read for the part as a Hispanic, the producers loved it so changes the role for her and cast her.

I'm sitting there thinking man that singer looks like matt Damon but in my wasted state I thought there was no way he'd be in a shit movie like this.
