i like BT

his commentary on MMM of the line in the sand game was just friggin awesome

like the others said, Jackovic was the biased one last weekend...worse than Walls, Quarterbrain and Maher and Lane combined

First time I'd heard him (Brian Taylor) commentate was last season. I'd never even heard of him before that. What stood out for me about his commentary was his unabashed biased against St Kilda.

I watch most AFL games during the season so I don't miss too many he commentates on & he always seems to have bias & he's not particularly accurate with his calls either. I had the TV going in the background listening to him describe a kick for goal as a "gimme" from 30m's out straight in front. When I looked up at the tele the kicker was 45m's out on a 45 degree angle. WTF.

I wouldn't want him to go though, he's such good value. He's the baffoon we love to laugh at 'cause he's sooooo stupid.

Did someone mention Kellie Underwood. She commentates like it's a horse race. She knows her stuff but totally painful to listen to. Worst nasal drawl ever.

Bruce McAvaney, this guy really is the pits. He really needs to look in a Thesaurus once in a while. His over use of superlatives has worn very thin over the years.

Dennis Cometti is easily my fave atm. He makes some excellent calls and I don't notice any bias. Seem like the only commentator that doesn't hate us is old spud, but he rarely gets a game. Also due to Saints being so good in the last year or so as well. Listening to the Geelong games you notice that whenever teams are close to or are beating them they get a massive wrap no matter how good or bad saints/geelong are playing. Like last year after we had won 5-6 straight, commentators were straight away barracking for the other team with general calls and umpiring, whenever a team got in front they would go mad..

The Bristle is the man, should be knighted. He is by far the best thing about football coverage at the present time. Keep up the good work Brian!

looks like we've got dwayne russell tonight... would prefer Bristle. Russell comfortably the worst going around.

Man, this BT was so bad tonight Dogs v's Eagles. Why do so many people like him?

When I watch the footy I want the commentary to at least reflect whats happening in the game. This Brian Taylor cretin has no idea. Gerard Healy had to correct him numerous times tonight.

It's bad enough his commentary is off but he pronounces so many players names wrong. Half the time I think he does it on purpose but still it's very disrespectful for the players concerned.

For mine, Russell's the worst.

Last year when we played Melbourne up at the Gold Coast they had Russell, Lynch and Dunstall working for Fox.

They all proceeded to talk up the Demons for the entire game, getting worse in the second half. Dunstall was "really impressed" with Melbourne creating some "really good scoring opportunities" in that second half.

Melbourne didn't score in the third quarter, and only scored four behinds in the last quarter.

If I was to put together a dream commentary team from the guys calling on TV at the moment, it would probably be Hudson & Cometti, with special comments from Hird and Blight. At least Malcolm is different to everyone else.

I preferred Brian on radio, but usually listen to MMM so haven't heard him this year on the wireless.

He does mispronounce names on purpose because he thinks it's funny. If I wanted to listen to a comedy call then I'd have Roy & HG in my living room. Just call the damn game correctly and quit being so smug.

Hearing "Raffel" Clarke drives me mad.

Worse was some WA announcer when we played W Coast. Had to keep getting reminded by the other announcer that it was "Raphael not Xavier", "Xavier is with the Lions now I think".
I think there was also a bit of "scooped up by a StKilda player".

BT is my favourite commentator by far. Has a sense of humour, and I wouldn't be surprised if that's partly the reason for his mispronunciation.

Sandi-laaands
Rafel
San-Kilda

Can't say I agree with those that think he is bias, even his call about smelling the purple haze I thought was funny, not barracking for Freo. It's not bias to say that the home teams supporters think they may have a chance.

Omg... Huddo?!?!

This 'guy' is the worst. Such a geek. If I ever met him I'd steal his lunch money, give him a swirley followed by an atomic wedgy. He couldn't earn a hardball get in under 12 girls but he somehow is respected enough to comment our game. Makes me sick.

Bruce, Luke Darcy, Andy maher, blighty next worst in that order.

Healy is good and bt ok.

Any rugby fans... NSW fans will share the same hatred of Gus Gould I do. Makes me sick. He's a qld groupie.

It seems commentators fall into categories...

Homers (guys who cannot overlook their love for certain teams they have been involved with): Jakovich, Darcy, Lane, Maher, Lynch, Pickering, Smith, Lloyd, Russell
Geeks: McAvaney, Hudson, Underwood
Curmudgeons: Walls, Blight, Matthews, Shaw
Jocks: Taylor, Quartermain

Walls is comfortably in the homer category.

The quality of commentary has gone down so much this year for me.

Channel 7 is still the worst, the Friday night team is terrible. They still have no freakin idea of the rules. Everytime there's a quick holding the ball rule for example they dont understand and have a little go at the umpire. McEvaney has lost it and just comes accross in a sexual deviant way talking to the players, Commetti can be alright but he is the worst at not understanding the rules, Mathews has gone down in quality and Harley...enough said and usually Maxwell...enough said.
Channel 10 has gone down in quality. Robert Walls wow I cannot believe he used to be good. Lost it completely for me. Hudson and Quartermaine can call it well, Darcy and Lloyd just annoy me. Blight is a cocky prick.
Foxtel have Frawley who is pretty much the only commentator I respect anymore. Pickering can be alright especially on the younger players but Dwayne Russell is terrible and Brian Taylor never has any idea what is going on out there. Needs to do more research on the players.

My fantasy commentator team:
Hudson calling the whole game, Frawley, Mathews and Healy because he loves St Kilda.

Bloody BT was singing during his commentary this week. He sang a line from the band Moving Pictures "what about me?" what an embarrassment he his to football.

Had to switch off another game this weekend Kelli Underwood was on the mic. Her voice just drones on & on. She knows her stuff relays the game well but I can't bear listening to that voice

What are they doing with Alistair Lynch? He can't speak. He stops & starts & stutters. He is an incredibly bad public speaker. Are these TV executives friggin' morons to think we, as the TV footy consumers, what to be subjected to this level of garbage commentary? Surely, there must be ex footballers that can speak with some fluency better suited than this Lynch man.
Fehring Best commentators in the business are Tim Lane and Glen Mitchell (oh, how great it is to finally be able to listen to games from WA now). For them, it's all about the footy.
And in summer Mitchell and Kerry O'Keefe are the funniest double act going around.
yep, absolutely.

A general question, Bruce McAvaney & Dennis Cometti, what teams do they barrack for? Anyone know.

can't 100% confirm that by the way, just an educated guess.

they are the two teams they both 'follow' to an extent, but i would stop short of saying they 'support' them.
I was thinking with Bruce that it might have been either Carlton or Essendon because he gets so excited when commentating I think he's going to pee himself.
