Outside the day club I used to go to on Saturday morning I saw a woman flick her butt at another woman who was bitching about smokers. Was the funniest thing ever. This is despite people including the two security guards who had the occasional smoke telling her not to stand there if she didn't like it and why was she in a club you could smoke in then?

The people who complain about smokers the most often have double standards when it comes to commenting on the issue.

I feel sorry for smokers being addicted to a destructive and lethal chemical that is, part for part, more deadly than cianide.

What I hate is sanctimonious assholes. Oh and immigrants.

(that was a joke, I'm trying to point out that the hatred towards smokers, and the infringement of their right to smoke, is no different than segregating blacks from whites in schools, or hating "the smell" of Indian people)

Yeah I can see how you would arrive at that parallel:rolleyes:
You twit!

I don't hate smokers, my best mate smokes, but I do hate the smell. Comparing it to something like coffee is ridiculous though. Any non-smoker will tell you that the smell of smoke is a lot worse than someone with coffee breath. Not because everyone is out to get the smokers, but because it ******* stinks.
My easy solution is just to hold my breath though. I get out of the smoke cloud in a couple of seconds, and it's not like they are doing anything wrong while walking along having a smoke.

There definitely needs to be more cigarette bins though. Hardly see any around.

As an occasional smoker I try not to ground the butts... but I never like putting them in bins, you think you’re gonna start a fire.

Public bins with the separate cigarette butt sections are the best, and I think most smokers use them when available.

lolwut? Never understood this, those who aren't "addicted" as regular smokers claim they are, but choose to smoke in social/drinking situations. My brother will chain smoke when he drinks but otherwise doesn't, he is an absolute ****wit so it does nothing to help my general assumptions of "casual" smokers.

I'm genuinely interested, could you explain?

Both my parents have smoked pretty much their entire adult life. My mum lost a few teeth due to her smoking. My youngest sister seems to be going down that path too even though she always says she plans on stopping, shes been smoking for 5 years. My other sister smoked in her teens till she met her husband. I never understood why any of them started the dirty habit in the first place, and seeing what it has done to my parents made me never touch a cigarette.

Non-smokers need to lighten up.

I LOL'd.

If anyone wants to be truly disgusted, take a walk along Smoker's Row on Grattan Street outside the Royal Melbourne Hospital. Unlikely that you will even see a more pathetic group of individuals in your life. And occasionally one in their PJs holding on to their IV stand.

I'm a non-smoker but did smoke for a long time. Anyway, as long as we can still drink ourselves into oblivion, commit assaults, dui etc etc we are better people than those nasty smokers right guys?

Again this morning, on the way to work, had some fwit in front of me flick his ciggy out the window, hits my windscreen.
Im planning on dobbing these sort of people in.

Has anyone on here dobbed people in for littering? if so, do you think your complaint went anywhere?

Yeah fair enough... unfortunately I’ll give you the standard smoker’s answer and say... I don’t know really.

I guess I am a smoker and am addicted on some level, just nowhere near as strongly as others... if that makes sense?

I go days or weeks without one and I don’t even think about it... but when I’m around others who are smoking (yep, usually at a pub) I guess I just get the smell and feel like one. I very, very rarely buy them but usually get offered one, especially if there’s one smoker in the group, they know they can rely on me to come outside with them and keep them company! I wouldn’t be a “chain smoker” whilst I’m drinking but might have 4 or 5 over the course of a night out... any more and I’d probably have to buy my own :D

But all the same, if I’m around smokers and don’t have one, I don’t find it that hard... there is a little man in there going “hmmm one of them would be nice...” but it’s not overpowering or anything. I never ask for them, feel like a bum and they’re not that cheap these days! But I do get offered them and will usually accept.

As for why I do it, I don’t really know... same as any smoker really. I just enjoy it, and it’s a bit of a social thing really.

I never smoke during the week, I work in an office and the smokers ****ing reek... just really seems to stand out in that sterile environment. You can really smell it on them. But I’ll get to a pub and be talking to someone, and won’t know if they’ve been smoking or not... I dunno maybe other people can, but in a pub etc environment I don’t find anyone really smells like smoke, there’s so many other smells I guess. Always got my face in a drink and I guess that’s all I’m smelling.

Realise it probably makes no sense, but that’s me and smoking.

These things are bullshit BTW... I know a bloke who got sent a fine... he knew a cop and asked him what to do... he said just sign a stat dec stating you didn’t do it and send it back with a letter stating so. He just got a reply saying “they were letting him off with a warning” or some such shit.

He does say he definitely didn’t do it and I believe him (he’s not even a smoker, though not sure if it was even a cigarette being alleged)... might have been someone who didn’t like him or even someone playing a weird joke. But it’s just as easy for people who may have actually done it to get out of it, and so they should.

I don’t condone littering but this type of stuff is just bullshit... it’s not the place of any random person to say you may have done something, and then up to you to prove you didn’t do it... it turns our whole legal system on its head. What’s next? I saw you speeding the other day, now prove you didn’t do it or you’re getting a fine? What a wank, only an absolute moron would pay a fine like this.

Wow so you don't have to even provide any proof, just put in the person's details and they get hit with a fine? Bullshit.

That's right and the fact that people get off them left right and centre attests they are bullshit. They have little to no proof you did it. They seem to scam like the private car parks do.

What sort of proof would you be able to provide? There's nothing.
It would be crazy to still fine someone if they say they didn't do it, but just take the word of someone who claims to have seen them do it.

Does anybody else question somebodies intelligence once they know they are a smoker?
Definitely.

As a smoker your doing something that will:
Leave you poorer
Reduce your life expectancy
Give you reduced fitness
Make your breath stink
Stain your teeth
Wreck your skin
Give you a choice of littering or spending time finding a bin on a regular basis
Face the regular choice of (at least temporarily) leaving to have a smoke or staying at a gathering in a public place

Given all of that, It's not why would anyone question the intelligence of smokers, but why would anyone not?

Because some of us...

Dont care about money.
Dont want to live past 60.
Dont enjoy exercise.
Dont care how we look or smell.
Dont care about littering in a wasteful society.
Dont like hanging around large gatherings of egocentric non smokers.
