If you all look at your Collingwood fixture closer you will see...

We have Port this Saturday on the 21st. This is followed by ANZAC day on the 25th on a Wednesday. Now correct me if Im wrong, but doesn't this mean we only have a 4 day break?

2 weeks prior to this, Collingwood was in WA playing the Premiers, the week before it was a rivalry round against an old foe and then an in-form Port.

Seems kind of hard for a team thats played a few big games to come out after 4 day break and play infront of 90000+ and do a 4 qtr job.

I'd just like to verify with you all that Essendon also has a 4 day break though. And that both of our next games after ANZAC day is on the 5th, the following Saturday.

But what are your thoughts?

That because its a four day break, Bucks is no hope of coming up :(

Sh*t happens though... We want to play on ANZAC day, it happens to be 4 days after our last day and thats just the way the cookie crumbles.

Rocca will be the main one I'd be worried about though... Will be interesting to see how he pulls up

The fixture was released in October and it was discussed in the media back then with Collingwood not having a problem about it. It'll just come down to smart player management and a real test of the depth of the list.

why just rocca?

A four day break is a MASSIVE advantage to us, due to Essendon having a surplus of old blokes and/or chronic injured who'll struggle to get up after four days - Hird, Lloyd, Lucas, Johnston, Johnson, Lovett-Murray, Michael and Fletcher to name but a few.

At this stage we have only Burns and Rocca, and possibly Clement (if he comes up this week) who'll have to back up after four days. The rest of the team are young enough to not only cope with a short break, but take advantage of it.

Sounds like a load of wahh to me. We have the benefit of having one of the better fixtures in the AFL. Take it with the good.

he thinks rocca isn't fit enough and needs a longer break. Essendon are also playing on the Saturday too

Not neccessarily just 'not fit enough'. Just hard to deny, he's a big bodied player who cops a lot each week and I'm sure as he's ageing he doesn't recover anywhere near as quickly and as effectively as he would have use too.

Just singled Rocca out over someone like say Scotty Burns, because if we lose Rocca we all know the effect that has on our team. No Rocca, and I would say our chances against the Bombers would be very slim. The structure he provides as he's the focal point up there.

Thats why I said just Rocca, while others are going to struggle with the short break as well he'd be one of the main ones... And definitely the one we would most struggle to cover if we lost him

I think the four day break will help us more than Essendon. Almost all players will feel the effects of a shorter break no matter how professional the after game care is.

A short break should see the game slow earlier which will be an advantage for us. I also think because of the tired bodies, skill level will almost certainly be down. Again, I think this is an advantage for us.

But lets worry about Port first!

Would have to agree with your thoughts there.

there's no disadvantage relative to Essendon. Also, we have an extra long break b4 the next game which is a big advantage over that opponent. Overall, quite a big advantage playing Anzac this year.
