Taylor aint too bad. But Dal Santo is quality, and the Hawks first round pick is going to be like no.12 or 13 at best. Which aint exactly a top 10 pick(not that Dal was top 10, but he is cartainly worth it). I don't usually reply to these kinda posts but im guessing we would want more, but as that dude in the Thread on the main forum, its a matter of trading quality not quantity. So not sure what we would trade/want.

i rate taylor highly but renouf bailey & mcentee will be better players & if we want a quality skillful outside midfielder i'd be willing to do that you have to give something to get something

give taylor some credit
Why? He is average in the hitouts and has no impact around the ground. Ordinary skills, ordinary player.

Gardiner and Kosi are both far better ruckman. He is about even with Rix, while Brooks has the potential to be the best of all of them.

We'll give you Dal Santo for Ellis, McGlynn and your 1st round pick.

OR

Dal Santo and 2nd round pick for Lewis and Sewell.

That said, Dal isn't going anywhere.

Look - we'll be happy to talk Taylor with you. The fact is that despite several trades to alleviate our ruck deficiency, we are not significantly better off.

You have to realise that a Dal Santo or some other franchise player is not going to be put on the table. Be realistic.

We have a very promising prospect in van Rheenan coming through, the jury is still out on Brooks, Rix has shown enough to hold his spot, Kosi wants to play a midfield (ruck / ruck rover) role, Clarke, whilst technically the best of the lot of them, hasn't been able to stay on the park, and Gardiner has yet to show that he can even get on the park. Watts is being thrown in the ruck to develop some skills in the Scorps and another tall (Wall) may be considered for the role as well.

A club might determine that it has a deficiency in an area and recruits to fill that deficiency. The deficiency isn't able to be overcome in a year from raw recruits, so the club still percieves the deficiency and recruits again. This happened at Port and they had a glut of ruckmen, but the cycle moves on.

I believe that we will unnecessarily recruit more ruckmen and have our own glut (I think Brooks should be ruck / forward now - swapping with Kosi) with Gardiner, van Rheenan and back up in Rix. We still need to develop a replacement for Gardiner (ruckmen take time) but I think the club will go into overkill mode and recruit one or two more.

I think you got your answer.

Straight up no more than a third rounder for Taylor, and not even that if we don't make the finals and that third rounder falls in the 30s.

As for a play for Dal Santo, if the situation deteriorates to a point where he doesn't want to stay, then the suitors have some advantage. Ideally you would want a first round pick (which will not be top 10) and a quality midfielder. Rule out Hodge & Mitchell from your point of view, Crawford from ours. That leaves Jordan Lewis. And I don't think Hawthorn would make that deal either, so in short the Hawks ain't getting Dal Santo.

Deluca from the Power is 203 cm and in good form for Sturt in he SANFL.

With Lade & Brogan in the Power team he would be better off at a club like the Saints.

We used a 3rd round draft pick for him and would be satisfied with that as a trade.

I reckon Hawthorn would have to give us
Lewis AND a single-digit first round pick
OR
Lewis AND a good young player/prospect such as Clinton Young, Birchall or Dowler.

Having said that...theres no way id even consider letting Dal go.

Taylor is a decent prospect. Hes still young and developing...unlike Brooks he has shown that he can be a decent ruckman at AFL level.

I will be very keen to see what st.kilda does with it's ruck stocks at years end! I think they are going to cut brooks. He has been is ok form with casey, but they don't want to call him up (which could suggest loss of faith)

Taylor will be 25 in a couple of months, Brooks turns 24 at the end of 2007.

Why is Taylor so superior to Brooks? Brooks has better skills, does more around the ground, is a better mark, more versatile and is younger. Taylor has been given more opportunities and has shown that he is nothing more than a backup/depth ruckman.

In the one and only game in which Brooks was given more than 50% TOG he dominated. I would much rather that we see if he can do that again instead of persisting with Rix or getting another VFL-level ruckman with no skill in the side.

But not at AFL level.

Not in the ruck; as a leading forward.

i'm interested in why, with Kosi, Clarke, & Gardiner out RL chose to ruck Blake instead of Brooks. It would seem he is on the outer; I'd at least have liked to have seen him given a couple of weeks in the ones as a ruckmen, to see what he does in fact have at that level, but it seems unlikely now.
