Many of you may still be friends with him, but he turned his back on the club we love. He left us believing we were finished, and his future was more assured at another club. By all means, shake his hand after the game, but not one of you bumped him, not one of you hit him, not one of you made body contact with him. Guess what, you're playing like it. This is soft, insipid footy, both before and during the game.

Paid too much respect to someone who paid us very little. The loyalists at Geelong should have at least gave him something before, but why not during the game? Ablett is given too much space when Selwood isn't with him.

Agree........the first half 'love in' was stomach churning. Wish the Cats came out tonight and played. My mate at the game that flew up was totally embarassed by it all, his words.......in the first half....only to have a somewhat satisfying result in the end. Poor. To win with that margin.....fine. To play like that in first half.......horrible.

When we played Sydney Mumford had a golden chance to pretty much send Menzel to hospital but he didn't.

Deal with it, most of the guys have been friends with Ablett for nearly a decade.

However they should smash Brown though.

There was enough niggle in the context of the game, Ablett got blocked out more than I've seen any other team do successfully without a fulltime tagger, so there was no need to get all jumper-punchy about it. Also Milburn pissed him off when the margin was tight which was amusing.

I had no issue with it at all. I'm sorry he's gone, but he did a lot for us over those nine years. And if he was still with us, we would not be enjoying the rise in performances across our squad as we are this season. And some very good & deserving club men got pay rises when his large chunk of our salary cap got freed up.

One door closes, and another one opens, if you catch my drift.

I've never seen Gary Who have so many possessions so ineffectively, and it was only the Ablett/ Judd immunity mindset of the match officials that saved him from being pinged a few times for incorrect disposal. I thought that the game plan was superb as he got no give and goes, and he created sfa in terms of decisive or creative disposals. He got meaningless personal numbers, and nothing else.

We played the game rather than the man, and it was far more effective that way. Gary got to reaquaint himself with our club song after the game, when we flexed our muscle and buried his new adventure. And losing by a lot is the most effective kick in the guts that we could deliver to somebody so used to winning (especially with us).

The Geelong way is to "Play the game as it should be played" (the creed of Bobby Davis).

We did. We won.

Some of you blokes need to move on....ablett was sensational for our club and after being a loyal servant for years he moved on....deal with it...the hate mentality is really very sad and reflects more on that individuals character rather than abletts decision to get a new job....loyalty is a 2 way street. We cut blokes who aren't up to it and trade contracted players to find someone better and that's considered OK yet if a decent player wants to do the same thing and find something better ($) he is labelled disloyal and a grub...sheesh....enjoy the moment...

Exactly!!

I can't say i felt anything negative towards Gaz last night, Thought I might but I didn't. Just admired a good player who is bloody hard to tackle.

The players have moved on and we pleased to see their mate. WooHoo I have moved on too. Feels good:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::):)

lol
you are so good - troll geelong as an insider from a hawthorn account

mooney should just retire if his best effort was to hug and kiss judas
corey was the best example of sportsmanship

there was no need to hug and kiss a player who created chaos last year and sold out on the rest of the players

too many people seemed fixed on appearing to do the right thing

in the first half he was given too much latitude -

Ablett gave Geelong many years of excellent service. Even down to his final game for the club he gave 100%. He helped Geelong to be the most successful AFL club of the last decade. It's pretty clear he had a great relationship with his Geelong teammates, as you could tell when the siren went.

Glad to see the club and players moving on.

On the game, I didn't think we were too soft on him. Thought they were hard but fair. He had little impact and the guys contained him well. The aggression was not overt, but was strong when he had the ball.

EDIT: removed a paragraph - probably misread the initial post

Do you think Ablett was in the Suns room instructing the boys to give his mates Jimmy, Sel and Moons reach arounds or little jazz hand slaps during the match?? or was he telling them to hit hard and make the tackles stick....

My highlight of the match was seeing Chris Scott still looking dark when we were 10 goals in front.

So Gaz still has so much influence on the cats that he can make us play badly for a half?

No-one holds a grudge like football fans.:D

Look at the ladder. 9-0. he left a great team. We are still a great team. We are challenging at the top of the ladder. move on....end of story..

Nothing wrong with still being friends with the Cats... it was his decision to leave and you have to respect he did was was right for him and his career. I know footy is a team sport but at the same time you still need to look out for no 1....

Gold Toast will be good in a few years as long as they don't get r*ped before then of there best players....

Still love watching him go about it... missed it in out sqaud.. I did think at the end of it "Our win" could have been "his win" if he stayed... anyway moving on...

I agree entirely.... he doesnt deserve any respect from anybody associated with Geelong with such a loving display of affection after the game....and they should have at least roughed him up when the chance arose and a few times they shirked that chance.

You get sick of reading people saying get over Ablett but I really dont see the harm of still hating him. My hatred is slowly subsiding and I honestly didnt mind watching him play last nite. Obviously we are all reveling in the great team we still have but their is nothing wrong with hating someone who should not have left Geelong after lying for the best part of a year and wrecking that said year.

So everyone saying get over your love type stalking of an ex is a bit of an idiot. An ex who shafts you doesnt constantly talk about you to the media. Thats another great thing about footy, we can hate the wan&*er players and clubs with a a passion and Ablett is now one of them.

Someone who grew up in the Geelong rooms and got given a sh9tload from the club, is number 5 on the all time list whilst his old man is number 1 should not have shafted the Ablett/Geelong name forever like he did.

So I for one will hate his stupid bald head and little gay voice talking about his love for the boys and his fake smile and excuses for shafting Geelong. Sh%t leader and sh%t person

This thread reminds me of the other one - Gaz is so selfish that he wouldn't have been able to assimilate and contribute to Chris Scott's gameplan if he'd stayed bla bla bla...

The Geelong players must be incredibly generous, forgiving types. They wouldn't know better than us surely.

Geelong were still protecting Gazza last night, no physical contract, no hardness, was very soft. They all love Gaz and didn't want to hurt him, so many times he just got out of traffic when he should have been bumped or tackled, pathetic.

It is So Good to see you alive, GFC123! After your post on the $un$' forum, several of us here were worried that you'd topped yourself as you did so openly promise on that thread, if Geelong actually got up and won.

(Reminder: 66 points, our way.)

Mind you, your still being alive means that your subsequent posts, such as your last one here, will always be treated as being all hype & no substance, and thus utterly meaningless.

But I am glad that you're still alive!

His mood was probably as bad as mine. Totally agree about the lovefest between the Geelong players and Ablett. They should have thrown him on his ass every time he even tried to be nice.

You wanted to leave you greedy money-hungry two-faced prick. You're not going to be respected or admired for it.
