First things first i am not a South Aussie and i am not related to Graham Cornes in any way, shape or concern but i thought after seeing him on TF last night that he was a real footy person and decent guy.

Cornes wears his heart on his sleeve and shows a passion for footy that the AFL has tried to take away he says what he thinks and that why i like him.

Anyway thats it.

When he coached Glenelg in SA he was someone Port loved to hate. One of my fondest memories of a Port v Glenelg game was when Graham Cornes walked to his coaches box, took the loudest raspberry I have ever heard and waved and smiled to all the Port faithful.

There is no bigger or better irony in AFL football than Cornes snr hoping Port Adelaide beat the Crows in the grand final if they both make it. Gotta love that if you are a Port supporter.

My fondest memory of him is him before the 1990 Grand Final claiming that Glenelg were the knight in shining armour and that in beating Port Adelaide they would be saving South Australian Football. Of course - we won. Then he claimed that Port would never beat Glenelg in a grand final ever again. Then of course - we thrashed them by 12 goals in 1992!!

Hey we've got a celebrity poster here on Big Footy.

Fabulous Phil is actually one of the Cornes boys.
"We love you daddy, thank's for producing us!"

Especially now that he has given us a very good onballer and possibly one of the best CHB/HFF the league will see in the next decade. Add to that that he wants to see Port beat the cows in the GF and i can see how he is a decent guy:p

He later claimed that he meant while he was coaching Glenelg, which is strange because it was almost certain at the time that that was going to be his final match as their coach.

The margin in that Grand Final was actually 56 points....:)

Cornesy's bearable...just.....

As a North man I was never a big Graham Cornes fan for obvious reasons. My loathing started minutes from the end of the 1973 Grand Final and pretty much keep going.
My opinion slowly started to change after some of those great State Of Origin victories in the eighties.(Younger readers who are wondering what State of Origin is should ask their Grandfathers:D ).Also after his speech to the North rooms after the 87 Grand Final.Very gracious.
When the Crows formed and he was named coach I was prepared to give him a go. But after the selection of some Glenelg hacks(Bartlett,Thompson etc)and the overlooking of some North stars(Burton,Sims etc) coupled with The Darren Jarman saga I was pretty much back to square one.I pretty much felt North were being screwed(obviously it wasn't Cornes doing but you know how bias footy followers can be!!).
When we(SA) beat the Vics at the MCG in 1993 I was prepared to forgive almost anything.I say almost!
The fact that his boys both play for Port(albeit the Power)is probably the most amazing piece of Karma ever seen in the history of South Australian football!!!

In fact cornes should right out a personal cheque for say 20 grand for his complete waste of time spent at Arden st.

God knows they could do with the money!
Come to think of it God knows what they "do" with their money!!!!

One of the softest "champions" ever to play the game.

Darkrider, you should know that Graham Cornes is a VietNam veteran (in a RAR battalion no less) who fought at the battle of Long Tan, and i would therefore assume he has a CIB (Combat Infantrymans Badge). Which is worth a whole fvcking lot more than you have ever done or will ever do in your pathetic little life. So, soft is he? If Cornes is soft, then you are an absolute marshmallow.

Good call.

We have players who cry their eyes out when they get sent to the other side of the country to play footy for big bucks and he calls Cornes soft.

If you want a 'soft champion' from SA think Michael Aish.

Did a web search and dug up that he served in the 7th Batallion RAR (1970, Vietnam). http://www.afana.com/netpaper/apr21-41084.html

Also found that he is prominent in veteran affairs, heading a charity dedicated to veterans' health, among other things.

To be honest I didn't know about this aspect of GC's life. As a kid I just knew him as the blonde guy from Glenelg FC, who also had a (Toyota??) car dealership with (was it) Ken Eustice(??).

The battle of Long Tan was in 1966 so he would not have been involved in that if he served with 7RAR in 1970.
I guess he would have been at the task force base in Nui Dat and that was no picnic by all accounts so good on him.

I have never liked the footballer/coach persona.

Ever heard his BIASED commentary on games????
is probably the biggest culprit in all forms of media

There are many worse offenders of biasness then Cornes... and if your complaining about his calling on 5AA ...well DERR... it is an Adelaide radio station broadcasting to a prodominitely SA audience.

The very same "PORT " that beat Glenelg in all those finals....

The other thing is..you can slowly , but surely hear his views on Port change as his sons near a G.F.

Michael Aish!

What exactly is your definition of Soft Docker Brat??????

Over 300 Club Games!
Magarey Medal!
Represented and Captained his State on numerous occasions!

Those decorations are not bestowed upon players who are soft!

Rowdy was and still is a Champion in every sense of the word!

You stick to labelling your players over there! Dont make comments about players who played for my club! A Club you know absolutely nothing about!

Why was Michael Aish a Target for opposition clubs every time he ventured onto the football field, its because he was that bloody good!

"Soft" is a referral to the lack of erection a man experienced when he would see you in the flesh!!!!!!!
