I have been a regular poster on the SRP forum and especially the Trump thread, this virus situation has affected me personally with four friends dying in the US and the comments there have been really disheartening and I decided not to post anymore in those forums/threads. There were/are a number of good posters who are still fighting the good fight against the conspiracy theorist and lack/late of action in the US.

I always enjoy your posts on almost every topic.

Take a few days away, think about it as for me now, it is easy just to be selective about which posts I read in full or just skim over.

I notice you are a frequent poster on the Trump thread, Maggie. I am afraid I would not have the patience to debate Trump. I so loathe the man that rational debate over his presidential qualifications and aptitude would sorely test my patience. I have often stated I know of no one who has contracted covid 19, but that may well be because I don't know many Americans. I am sorry for your loss Maggie. Four is a lot of friends.

I just don't bother Talking my Poltics as you always going to piss someone off.

My Dad said when he talked to people he just Agreed with them about Politics and Religion so not to cause any Issues

I used to be really interested in politics and held some rather left wing views, but in recent years I have almost ceased to care. The only exception is Trump who I still cannot believe is the president of such an important country. I understand the backlash of his voters to the growth of political correctness, but think voting for Trump is taking this concern several steps too far and in the wrong direction. There are at present so many evil or poor world leaders.

Left wing used to mean socialist, that you believed in the government owning all the important companies and services like electricity, gas, transport, communications etc with capitalists believing in private ownership of just about everything with the government interfering as little as possible. The Labour Party were the left wing, the communists far more left wing, and the Liberals right wing. Now the important companies and services are privatised, there is not much difference between the two parties. That is a simple economic definition of the difference between the two.
 
This is just a vent. I thought twice about posting it , but well, here goes.

As the excitement builds with anticipation of the season starting, I find myself listening to AFL podcasts and commentary, despite my better judgment.

While the various pathogens that get passed off as personalities on those shows are a topic for another time, I just feel the need to vent on how many illogical points I keep hearing across the various shows:

  • "Collingwood winning close games is just a statistical anomaly. Look how they reverted to the mean with close loses in the finals." No dipshits, the only two teams we couldn't quite run over the top of also happened to be the best two teams in the competition. If anything this tends to suggest the opposite, that we do have a gameplan designed to react to game states, and only the very best teams managed to withstand it , albeit by a whisker. I swear so many of these people haven't even watched any Collingwood games from last year - half of the close wins were just bigger wins where we took the foot off the gas.
  • "Geelong proved they aren't too old". Well being old is not the problem per se, the problem of being old is generally more injuries and slower recovery times. Declines in performance of older players are usually due to injuries and niggles, if not for a bit of reduction in speed. Let's see whether they can keep the old blokes on ice all year again and get by, I doubt it. I think the writing is on the wall of Tomahawk this year already.
  • "Sydney will have to overcome the hurdle of losing by a lot in the grand final, which in the past teams cant overcome." Oh yeah? Did Sydney also have a self-sabotaging camp over the summer that will leave mental scars for 5 years? Oh yeah? Is the league also going to go into a sudden year long quarantine again? This is the dumbest stat ever and I cant believe how many of these so called experts would rely on it. Besides that, Sydney are well coached and have a great young list - its mind boggling how they are so universally out of fashion.
  • "How will Melbourne go with the Gawn and Grundy experiment?" - While I concede this is a fair question, at the same time does anyone even remember that they had Luke Jackson play the same role last year? Its a minor difference in role at best. In any case, melbournes mids are so good at stoppage they may as well have won 100% of stoppage last year, and yet they still lost because they don't effectively transition the ball from defence. So if having Grundy increases their stoppage wins from say 100% to say 100%, where is the impact exactly? Gawn in the forward line is going to win it for them? Look, I'm not saying they wont be good - but the lack of logic and anlaysis is vexing.

Anyway, the list goes on. In summary, I would just like to say how much I appreciate the rare instances where a so-called footy expert speaks with some intelligence and analysis, rather than having to listen to some ex-player who is basically a bicep with a microphone.
 
I dont know if this qualifies as venting. The use of reasoned arguments - even if they're wrong - usually disqualifies a post as venting.

An earlier post today on cornes was more of a vent....
