There is no doubt that Mick was given way too much time to deliver the flag but he had runs on the board as a coach, Bucks in his 3 year tenure has shown nothing but the ability to say all the right things.
The two situations are completely incomparable.
I'm glad we agree. MM was given too much time. Bucks, so far, too little. They are different situations but comparable in that they are both coaches of Collingwood and both have been / were lambasted by fans on here for not getting the job done. The only difference being, MM was lambasted for failing for too long, Bucks for not showing enough from the start.

I don't care about what Malthouse is doing now or that he is no longer the Coach. I was ok with Buckley taking over. But this simplistic argument that some people use that buckley hasn't been given as long as malthouse is stupid.

By this time in their respective reigns Malthouse had made a grand final and he started with a much much worse team.

The reason Malthouse was given leniency in the years when we really struggled was because he had previously performed very well for us. Buckley as yet hasn't earned that faith.

If you are seriously going to use that argument then that would mean that EVERY coach we get in future has to have a minimum of 10 years because thats how long Malthouse got.

Malthouse brought the team to a GF sooner, but the worse team comment is arguable. Say what you will about Shaw, (and he was a lousy coach tactically) but he knew the club needed a rebuild when he took over and he wasn't afraid to get games in to the kids. By the time Malthouse took over a fair few of the younger players had games under their belt and the club was loading up on high draft picks.
When Buckley took over the club was in the third (and last) year of their premiership window. He was able to take the team to a top 4 finish, and could arguably have gone further if there weren't so many injuries to key personnel.

Given the clear focus in the last couple of seasons on rebuilding (as evidenced by the aggressive trading for draft picks of the past few years), it will be interesting to see if the team is able to improve their performances under Buckley, and the next two years (imo) will tell us if Bucks can be the coach we all hope he can be.

Fingers crossed he can.

Oh, and I also hate over cooked steak. Medium rare or gtfo.

I actually used to think Shaw was a good coach but he had a very ordinary list. Quite often we'd have a good lead early in games which I thought he got using good tactics but teams would always run over us when their talent came to the fore and we couldn't maintain pressure.

I think the problem was that the club was totally incompetent in the late 1990s and that Jesus wouldn't have been able to coach the team to a premiership. I cant see how Tony can be blasted for being a poor coach in the situation that he found himself in. Recruiting was worse than inept. You had to wonder if they were deliberately picking bad footballers. I'm not sure how much input Shaw had into the selection of players. He might have had a part in digging his own grave.

getting sick to death of every thread being hijacked and turned into a buckley v MM debate. Add to that that it is the same crap being regurgitated over and over and over and over and over and over again.
I used to read threads, now I find myself just skimming them looking for stuff which is not buckley v mm related.

I'm sick of the hindsight/what if posting.
What's done is done - move on.

Some people like to go back over the 'what if' scenarios, some don't ... Lately these topics have been lanced out into new threads to help people avoid them if they want to.

All the Buckley v MM stuff should be in the Buckley thread. Please report it if you find it elsewhere.
