I realised the reason I don't care that much about the 2026 premiership season

I replied to someone who claimed that we just ‘buy all the great players.’

I’m fully aware of who we have brought in, thanks.

I’m also fully aware of where they sit in the afl landscape, and also where other teams and their rosters sit in terms of who they have recruited from other teams as well. The point is the same.

We don’t pick the eyes out of the player pool by any stretch. We’ve taken two really good players in Dangerfield and Cameron 6 years apart and then Smith who was yet to actually achieve anything another 3 years later.
Far too nuanced a conversation for old man Partridge. Waffles on with so much garbage about the players attained from other clubs. Over half our 2022 premiership team was Pick 40 or later or from one of the rookie drafts.

You dont ever hear AFL people or hardcore fans admit it, but on Saturday SEN Ken Hinkley and Adam Simpson admitted the standard of players on average has dropped a lot in the last 20 years.
The bottom 5 players each week at most clubs are just bog average battlers.
Most players lack basic skills and hardly anyone can kick on both feet any more.
Despite the money and the marketing the competition just isn't that good.
That's why good players lile Ashcroft and Daicos can waltz in and dominate easily.
The AFL want you to focus on this but you you should ask why it's so easy.
20 years ago they get a very hard quality player on them every week making it hard.
Not any more.
And the AFL's solution? Add more teams and bog ordinary players.

At the same time, it's up to each player to work on their opposite foot as well. The best players at every club are very good on their wrong foot (Bont and Cameron are two who are excellent on their right foot), but no doubt some look like they just can't be bothered.

You only need to look at Walker's last goal for Adelaide the other night, it was a tricky little shot, but it was nice to see an experienced key forward be able to effortlessly move onto his left foot and convert. Never looked like missing. At this level so they should.

Why are people so unkind?

Don't worry it's actually quite flattering. If you're ever up for a laugh wander over to our board for some comedy gold. You wouldn't believe some of the stuff that's gone on.

Just remember, someone anonymous might disapprove of what you say. You may struggle to face the next dawn. :)

Probably because it's about the thousandth time repeating the same dribbling nonsense about our obsession with trading. Still absolutely no different to any other club. Fill most of the list via the draft and fill in the gaps via trading and free agency.

Not a hard concept

Be that as it may, he is allowed to have his opinion even if you don’t like it. And that doesn’t give you a license to hang shit on him.

But they are all older players

Most players under 25 can't kick opposite foot .

Ok mate.

So someone says something that upsets your nuffy belief system so you attack their appearance?

He knows miles more then you Bout AFL talent.

Now long have you coached an AFL team for??

OMG take a chill pill Daley Thompson, it's a joke.
You want a read a bit before making wrong assumptions about what I believe?

Context helps. Partridge would not give a shit about someone being sarcastic, dismissive, condescending or abrasive when making a point about a Geelong discussion. The reason being that he is the same way when conversing with other Geelong supporters. His reference to what "you would not believe that goes on over there" sums it up. He cosies up to opposition supporters on the main board by highlighting how "unbiased/impartial" he is about Geelong compared to other Cats supporters.

Excellent attempt at mindreading there. Albeit completely incorrect.

Could you now please quote me - either on the Geelong board or elsewhere - on how many times I've had a crack at you directly by name. Especially if it involves taking snide potshots. You may struggle to find any. A courtesy not quite reciprocated it would seem.

Either way, if you can't handle my views that your issue not mine. Considering the sum total of posters I interact with directly is a whopping ONE (and a Geelong supporter too!), cozying up to other posters isn't something that's a prime concern. Keep swinging however.

Wasting your breath I'm afraid. Resorting to potshots, namecalling and abuse is pretty standard when your opinion dares to differ with his exulted eminence. You're talking to someone who tried to rig a poll on his own club's board, so not entirely unexpected.

Unless you've been called a foamer, dribbler, or mouthbreather you've got off quite lightly!

I said your tone to other Geelong supporters is generally sarcastic, dismissive, condescending and abrasive. Especially if they dare praise the club or defend it against any of your over the top criticisms or lazy generalisations. Then you get up on your high horse implying that Geelong supporters are hyocrites for failing to see what impartial Partridge does. You may have a different perspective on those interactions, but no I'm not walking back on my summation of them.

Context is helpful to others who may fear you are simply being attacked for having different opinions.

I'm only sarcastic to those who've had a crack at me directly - which I don't apologise for at all. You have a go at me, amazingly enough, I'm going to have one back. Those who don't (which is most) going back a fair way don't seem to have much of an issue strangely enough. It's only those who seem to be a little more precious and insecure who have a problem.

Either way, keep fighting your good fight and remain on patrol. You named me - not the other way around.

Your feathers are awfully ruffled from me simply painting an accurate picture of your interactions with most Geelong supporters and discussions on most Geelong topics in recent years. I accept that I could have just let someone defend your honour, or I could have provided context. I don't think taking either path would be the end of the world. Insecure and precious types may - who knows.

Or what you think is accurate. In your opinion.

Either way, it's unlikely there will be agreement.

Very transparent.
The Blicavs take is still one of the biggest whiffs going around.

Well one reason of many...still love Aussie rules and will always do, but on top of the AFL's tone deaf lunacy, from Opening Round to 'Wildcard Round', the fixturing and other inequalities, its the same old teams challenging again. I know this is the case in many sporting leagues, and even worse, but as neutrals the prospect of another Brisbane, Sydney, Hawthorn, Geelong (any combo of those) premiership or gf isn't really that interesting. Or the fact these same teams have consistently challenged and dominated this century.

Course I'll still tune in like a muppet, but I'm really hoping Adelaide or Gold Coast can pull one from out of the hat. Dogs seem done but stranger things can happen.
No you didnt realise it. As the real reason you have no interest is your team is ordinary. Thats it. Welcome to the world of depressed richmond, stkilda, carlton, essendon and fitzroy supporters. People who have all lost interest in the afl for extended periods cos their teams were crap for too long.

What about Lake and the key defender from Melb - goodness me

Get rid of the draft - it is a shambles - id love someone to challenge it in the Supreme Court it would be tossed out on its ear - the precedent was set many years ago when the late Terry Hill who was one of 3 players in the NRL who challenged it successfully
Lake was in his twilight years and Dogs were happy to let him go as they were rebuilding young team. Was a risk for Hawks but more than payed off.
Frawley was the only player we got through free agency and most thought he wouldn’t be near as good as Melb years.
Anyone Hawks got was through trading. Even Burgoyne was a risk as his knee injury was one of the worst and no one expected him to come back that well. Even Port were happy for him to leave. We got some duds too but that’s history.
Some clubs just traded for what was needed not the biggest names.
