I remember having my first Cheeseburger at Belmont in Newcastle NSW. I thought it was the most disgusting half assed attempt at a hamburger I had ever had. I think they've gone downhill since then! ... now on a track to Mt Isa or something - genuine response coming up

When was that? Must have been the north end? We lived on the south side of Noble Street, which reminds me of another "I remember when".

1 think it was about 1984 or 85, and you regularly see the Cats' senior players on their long distance run around Newtown. Mark "Jacko" Jackson would always be lagging well behind the rest of the team.

You must have lived near me, but by then, I had already left home.
But I do recall David Clarke training over summer, and as I was training for a marathon, got to do many kms with him at Landy Field on days I was doing speed work. He lived in Noble St near Geelong College, and was a great bloke, iirc. Really pushed himself to the limit.

I remember moving to Newcastle NSW in the 1970's and being laughed at for having little red balls.

I remember trying to play rugby league and not being able to understand why you wouldn't KICK it to the winger. I remember kicking it to my winger in a pre-arranged move, with the winger scoring a try and me being yelled at and dragged by the coach for kicking (protests dismissed).

I remember as a student in Sydney when we played Aussie Rules on rugby league grounds sometimes and when the Maitland Magpies couldn't field a team on the weekends. I remember getting about 1000 people to our grand final in Sydney too.

This is why I blow up every time I hear some Sydney-sider sipping on their latte saying "oh yes, I've always loved footy. Aren't the Swannies just marvellous" (Years of anger management have reduced it to a sneer)

And I remember 44 years of maybe next years

I remember hanging around preseason training early 80's and all the guys had been slaving away over summer, all except Sammy Newman, who made his one appearance for the last session, and was visibly fitter, faster, more prepared and the envy of all his teammates, just by individual beach training at Pt Lonsdale.
He was an underrated player over the history of Geelong's existence imho; I'd have him top 5 of all time.

All that horizontal activity would have helped too.

Yep, he was great at situps and pushups back then. Think he may have been one of the instigators of planks.

Can't remember who it was but the year was 2006 and would have involved a player being up to no good. I checked out the site and even though the mods had deleted the "rumor" i said "where do I sign up?"

I remember when teddy used to commentate on k rock. I'd tune in every week to listen. Loved the song they made: the k rock commentary team. Wonder if k rock still have it. Loved teddy!

Talking to my step-grandad the other day, told him we live in Hamlyn Heights. His response 'oh, you mean old Sid Hamlyn's farm'.

I remember when, after moving to Sydney in the mid eighties, you could go to the swans v cats games at the SCG and sit anywhere you liked, there was only ever about 5,000 at the ground. I remember Warrick capper and swans cheer squad - 'The Swanettes'. I remember when a bunch of cats players were sitting in the stand just across from us and my sister losing her shit over Robbie Scott

He was my maths teacher for the last couple of years of his career.
Absolutely brilliant guy. If they ever made a movie about him Harrison Ford would be a prefect fit.
Calm, confident, softly spoken yet firm, and always finished the conversation with a smirk.

Anyone remember those comics that used to be in the Record in the mid-90s? Distinctly remember one from the 95 GF edition that had Jeff Kennet trying to sabotage Carlton training by turning the Sherrins into bombs and remotely detonating them.

I remember getting a 2 page, hand-written letter from my favourite player of the time, Mark Bos-I put it under my pillow and told my mum never to touch it!

My all time fav player also. I even took a vested interest in every player that wore the number 24 jumper afterwards, and Trevor Poole also became a fav of mine. The novelty ended after Blake had taken residence.

I felt like the king of school after Bos won his second B&F in succession.

PS: It's quite ironic how I took a vested interest in Jed Bews through his junior football, before he was subsequently drafted and given the number 24.

I still have 2 rather old Geelong jumpers with Bos"s number on the back, countless badges and old memorabilia.

Michael Kol was my yr 7 school teacher in 89, the Year he won the Gardiner medal. My parents also rented his house. Ripping bloke who gave the whole family GF tickets that year.

I can remember going to a Footscray v Geelong game at the Western Oval in 1980 - i was allways intrigued by their ground - youd go past it coming back from holidays ( public holiday ) and you could see and hear the crowd -and players as you sailed past - plus their grandstand/terraces seemed to overhang the road - there was a ramp - to the left - i allways wanted to drive down it - but never did

In the seconds ( there was feck all there) the ball went near Rough Robbie McGhie ( who was on his last legs)-and this old Scrays supporter yeld out at the top of his voice - Thats yours " Bones " - jeez it was funny

Plus at half time ( Geelong were a mile in front) Billy Goggin (who had previously coached the dogs -and had left in iffy circumstances) was walking across the ground - from that coaches box he had built - and as Billy approached the race - a few of the Footscray supporters ( who had worked out street smart Billy) were yelling out -" lets make a deal Billy"
