It might of been head shaking stuff, but i never been to many game before that.I was living in country vic at the time so going the the G was a big thing. Will never, ever forget it.
I lived on Ascot Vale road. (moonee ponds).
Had a mate up the night before from Geelong.
We'd hit the tunnel til 6. Completely smashed.
Got up. Felt like a busted arse, would have looked like one. Heard the first quarter as we struggled.
"I think he's on"
Goal 2. "shit, I reckon he's on"
Goal 3. "that's it. He's on. We're going"
Got there just before 1/2 time.
That game was ridiculous. It was head shaking at it's best.

Using a CRYSTAL SET??
I did-- one of the pleasures of life as a kid in the early 60's. Very few here would appreciate the amazing revelation of radio using this small amazing device.
I believe I was connected via a set of Lancaster Bomber head phones, also used to go fishing in a half war surplus belly tank they made a great little boat.Using a CRYSTAL SET??

I remember playing kick to kick with Fred Flanagan as a kid.
He was very old and I was very young, and I probably didn't fully appreciate it at the time. He was a genuinely lovely man and a great family friend.seriously? That gives you some serious cred!
I remember when John Barnes had his jaw broken against Richmond, then going into school on Monday and writing about it in my Grade 1 diary, then getting in big trouble for using the f-word when describing Richmond players and fans...I remember the day John Barnes was walking past my school at 3:30PM when we were waiting at the gate to be picked up. A great game of kick to kick was started.
that was an absolutely appalling act and I think it was Paul Bulluss who got him behind the play. Richmond came out guns blazing and went the man for most of the game, we lost Barnes and Handley early in while Ablett was off and on the field throughout because he was trying to square the ledger with Bulluss who was eventually put on the bench for his own safety.

I remember going on a school excursion to Tullamarine Airport when it opened.
