...to play O'hAilpin, Smith, Russell and other decent youngsters. We all know our season is well and truly over and i think it's time to start playing different players. We always have inclusionslike Sporn, Simpson, Wiggins etc, and each week they play mediocre footy. Instead of playing these kinda players i'd prefer to play the youngsters in Russel, Smith and the rest. And we should also play Walker in the centre, and give more game time to players like Bryan and Betts. Finally, Campo should be given a defensive tagging role on players for the rest of his career. Hecan provide run out of the backline and also allow youngsteres to play on the ball.

Thoughts??

Agreed.........sort of.

While I think we need to bring in the youngsters as you mentioned, we need to play blokes like sporn so they can prove whether they are worth keeping.

I certaintly thik Sporn is a good player and deserves a few weeks to prove himself. We should bring these youngsters in and give the others more game time but in smallish doses, just to give them a bit of a feel for it. If they prove themselves in that time then sure, why not give them more of a go.

Basically the problem at Carlton is the fringe players who are in and out of the ones, our main priority should be to give all them guys ago and then at the end of the season the coaching staff will no who to definetly delist because of there performance this year. There will be a clean out of atleast 5-8 of these "recycled" "fringe" players, so I think we need to make exactly sure which ones we want and which ones to get rid of.

if these guys are ready to play, then we need to pick them. (they need to be physically and mentally ready)

but we need to do what is best for their development, being picked to play AFL and only getting a 1/4 may not be the best thing for their development.

in days gone by players used to play 50 to 100 reserves games before they were picked to play afl (tuck, dipper, bradley-sanfl)
these days we expect players to jump from kids footy (tac cup) to afl, that jump is very big.

its a hard call as you don't ever really know if a player is ready to step up, unless they are given a chance.

as for setanta IMO he is still nto ready fr afl, he is still learnig the game and playing 120 mins of vfl is going to benifit him more than 30 mins of afl.
hearing the coachs speak about him, they are rapped with his progress, but all say he still has a lot to learn about footy, eg/running to right spots, when to take off etc.
he's in no danger of being de-listed so we let him develop in the afl.
note: 2002 jarrad waite was the only player on our list not to play afl footy, as the decision was made to ley him play vfl, allow him to develop and play 120 each week.

.

i know tuck played a ********load of 2s games but how many did dipper play? Just wonderin?

betts should be played onball, he did well against adelaide and it will be to the club advantage for him to be on the ground as he reads it so well and will benefit from more gametime...we got to stop playing him from the bench and then stuffing him in the pocket

dipper player 90 to 100 (happy to be proven wrong)

haha thats unreal never knew that. Those days are gone far far away. Makes sense though doesnt it, giving a player an extended go in the 2s. Used to be the case why now is everyone wanting to rush the kids in.

We've got 18 year olds playing, when a while ago they still wudda been running around in the u/19s.

that was the beauty of the reserves and u/19's
they should bring back the reserves, the afl is making enough money to subsidise it.

These guys most of em arent ready to play afl yet...but due to the lack of ressys there in the ones at the highest level getting bagged when they cant cut it(for the most part)

Fact is most are still growing!!!

People wonder why the skils in afl is ******** easy the demise of the reserves
