I think that we have found the right mix of players for our structure. We may change the players within but I think the structure is fairly well set.
This is an example of the team I would look at for next week based on this weeks team and Carey and Skull back. This team, in my mind, represents the perfect structure for our team. Some personnel may change but I think the structure should be kept.

B: Skull Mick Arch
HB: Motlop Macca Blakey
C: McLaren Simmo Kingy
HF: Byron Carey Colby
F: McKernan Rocca Grant
FOLL: Burton Stevo Harvey
I/C: Cochrane Clayton Sinclair L. Smith.

I think that represents the right mix of talls and smalls. The interesting one is L. Smith. I have put him in their because I am biased, I like the bloke. The position however is a secondary forward/ruckman. I have picked him ahead of Petrie because I think his forward ability may be better and Corey and Spider should be able to take the ruck.
This team gives us more than enough speed. Cochrane, Clayton, Sinclair and McLaren offer our core group fantastic back up running power.
Colbert may go back against a taller team and we can still have the big three forward with Lindsay as a possible fourth.
What do you guys think? Remember, personnel may change but this team has been selected to fulfill a structure as well, which I believe is important.

I think 4 talls is way too many.

3 talls is plenty.

1. Carey
2. 1 out of Rocca, McKernan or Smith
3. 1 out of Archer or Colby

I think the problem is we now have 4 full forwards.
We are going to get the most out of Wayne playing from ff, and Rocca, McKernan and Smith are liabilities at chf.

Colby or Arch to make a contest at chf with 2 playing out of the square. I think Rocca compliments Wayne best.

So my best 22 with a bit of crystal ball is:

Blakey Martyn Archer
Cochrane McCartney Motlop
King Stevens McLaren
Pickett Colbert Grant
Rocca Carey Abraham
McKernan Simpson
Harvey

Burton, L.Smith, Harris, Spaull

(apologies to the skull)

On the Subject of the Skull I am a bit worried about the little bloke. Foot problems seem to be the hardest for the doctors to fix. If this is a one off problem then all is well but if it re-occurs then I dont know to many clubs that would put up with it for to long.
He is not an out and out champion and never will be. He is a goer a battler who put in. Does his best every week. But in saying this there is plenty of kids and players of equal ability, But he is at the N.M.F.C and gets my support.
I cant understand what expectations some so called supporters have of a 21 year old who is 180cm and 75kg who has played 28 games. He has been playing back pocket and has had some bad games but I think his good outweigh his bad. I admit Im biased but I am also realistic.
The amount of time the ball has spent in our back line this season he can hold his head up.
I have not had the chance to speak to him but hope to at training this week. He will hopefully be able to shead some light on how bad it realy is.
Hope you get back to your best and always improving Skull.

Go the Skull !!!

Makey looks as though he is one of Denis's favourites so if he can keep himself fit he looks to have a good future. With Pickett now playing forward he has the opportunity to take the crumbing forward every week. Motlop has been the surprise packet over the last two weeks so they may be vying for the same position.

I am suprised Cup that you wouldn't put Sav at FF. Carey is at his best starting about 35 metres out and has the ability to run backwards. It serves two purposes. First, Gives us two targets inside 50. Second, Sav, or Wayne, can be a dummy lead for the other, easing pressure on the flooding technique.
Corey and Colby are the other two. I think that we can have another tall forward (31 or 38) parading around the CHf area, or perhaps starting with Sav in the goalsquare (worked last 2 weeks). Colby is there for the long lead, like he has been doing. Hopefully his contesting will be done across the centreline. I think we can operate with the four of those guys as long as the positioning is correct. It also depends on who we are playing and the way the game goes. If two lead out to each side of the ground, the other can be in the centre corridor. nmame me one side with the firepower to stop 3 big players.
The team I chose was for this week, if both Duck and Skull come up.
On Skull, I hope that he gets back soon. I think that adding both him and Duck will round off the team beautifully.

I would keep Corey away from the ruck until his confidence is completely re-built... today was the first step in what may be a long journey... but it was a step in the right direction...

Does anyone else think that Corey played a half decent game because he didn't have to get out of the way of Duck??
In the first 1/2 he was leading well to space (have yet to see 2nd 1/2 due to work & dodgy vcr) @ CHF...was it just because it wasn't occupied by Wayne? or has he genuinely got some form back?

A mate of mine approached Pagan at the airport last night & hassled him into admitting he was playing Ducks & Drakes with Makey this week. Sly bugger.

I just wish we could have fully capitalised on our secret weapon, Lindsay "Flash Gordon" Smith. There's probably a grander plan instore.
