I can - North Melbourne in 1993. Wayne Schimmelbusch was sacked after round 3 (I think), and Pagan appointed. First game resulted in a win - against Geelong at Kardinia Park. They then went on to 6 successive preliminary finals and 2 premierships.

Tough decisions can work.

schimma resigned after the crows pumped north in the '93 ansett cup by 147 points. pagan was coaching the roos that year from round 1.

There's time to sit down and appoint a senior coach for next season. Right now we don't need to try and find the solution. Right now we need to get rid of Thompson and either put in Ken Hinkley or Brendan McCartney as the interim coach til the seasons end. We need to let it be known we don't accept 8 years of mediocrity by getting rid of the cancer immediately. To have a winning percentage under 50% with the list we've had is appaling.

Our next head coach deserves to start his position before round 1 next season and not thrown into no-mans land in round 7-8 this season.
Now is the time to give Hinkley or McCartney the opportunity to throw in their own ideas for the remainder of the season with a group of guys they know extremely well, and for the club to work hard in finding suitable candidates over the next 4-5 months.

i think the assistants are part of the problem...and we really are suffering for appointing sanderson as another assistant instead of trying someone with some midfield experience. our setups at centre bounces and stoppages are woeful.

I beleive Hinkley and McCartney to be just as inept as Thompson

So we just write-off the season, do we Renegade? Learn S.F.A.from it. Putting in Thompson's underlings achieves nothing. Just continues the same culture. If Thompson was to go (and he won't Costa and Cook will stick with him) bring in someone, even in the short term, who will introduce a culture change. Parkin would be my first choice as an interim.

Then start looking for a proven coach to take us to the next level .We don't have time for apprentices. Tick! tick! tick!, premiership going, going ........

Well the season is a write off if nothing changes. Sure we might sneak a spot in the finals and bomb out early. That's half the problem. People see that as some sort of achievement.
Using Hinkley or McCartney for the rest of the season isn't something we'd be doing to improve the club this season. It's simply a message that we won't accept shit like Thompson's anymore. It shows for once we have the balls to come out and make a decision that can benefit us for next year. Hiring Parkin or whoever doesn't accomplish anything. We really need to take plenty of time to make a proper decision and interview everyone that is suitable. We can't make a change for the sake of making a change. It has to be a legitimate step forward.

Should always be looking to improve.

Hinkley and McCarthy are integral parts of the coaching panel that is serving up the shit we witnessed in the first half on Saturday. Putting them in control would just be a continuation of the shit. Thompson indicated in the Hun this morning the coaching panel couldn't work out who was supposed to be on Simpson when asked why he didn't tag him. What did he get, 40 plus possessions. The same thing happened last year as Daniel Kerr ran around gathering 40 plus possessions. The sole responsibility can't be sheeted home to Thompson.

Jesus Christ, you could imagine them as surgeons trying to save a guy hemmoraeghes on the table - rather than staunch the bleeding then figure out what's wrong, they'd pull out the textbooks and try (and fail) to figure out what was going on, and the poor bastard bleeds to death.

Look, Thompson aint going to be sacked. The board were riduculed from here to timbuktu over their review and reccommedations (one of which not to make any coaching changes until 08). So I hardly think they will go back on that. Best case scenario would be for him to resign, though he wouldn't be paid out so I think thats unlikely.
Behind the scenes perhaps a chat could be made where Bomber does resign but club agrees to pay out his contract. Mind you, I can't think think of too many cases where clubs have sacked coaches and they have been able to turn their season around.
Oh, and as an aside (if your finances allow for it), you buy a membership regardless. I live in Sydney and won't see the cats up here at all this season but it didn't stop me renewing or for my new born daughter (kitty cat member - mind you, should I be so cruel???)
Poor girl.
