gotta play us sometime! We need to not play down hill skiers
gotta play us sometime!
I think the focus on who the players are is misguided. Richmond showed that you don't need to have a team of superstars, just need to have a good system in place. Hardwick comes from the Clarkson school of teamwork over individuals. It's an old adage but a champion team will always beat a team of champions. When the team plays well, individuals look better. No Rance, no problem. Clarko got rid of Buddy, no problem. An AFL superstar is more about personal marketing than value to the team or team success. I'm less interested in doing trades for the sake of it and more interested in making sure our system is well drilled. I always felt that Scott never got things quite right with our preseason. We mostly seemed to be off the pace, it wasn't until the season started that we were able to get coherency, especially in the last few years. We need to be better than that.
Let's see what Shaw can do with our mob.

Well said HKR. I've been trying to say something like this all week. We've seen what happens to clubs (Melb, St Kilda and Carlton) who get obsessed with high draft picks. Donuts. We don't have a superstar list but it's still solid and i reckon there are some real gems in last years crop. With a small forward, hard running midfielder and a key defender we are back in the game. Richmond's success is based on playing for each other, a brother culture whereby every player knows their role. Footy is played between the ears - and the heart - and this is what we need to tap into (along with an unrelenting desire to play for each other).
You know what I liked when Rhyce took over? Those teeny tiny team things that we were missing under Laidley and Scott but which were drilled into the Clarkson teams. Sheparding, effective blocks, aggressive mark standing to stop play ons and generally willing ourselves more effectively to the next contest. Anderson, Zhurrhar, Turner, Thommo do it all instinctively but we had too many players who would give the ball then just sag off the contest under Brad. Great to see TT and Simpkin learning these habits early.
I have said this before but I have infinite patience about North winning another flag. I started following football in 1993, picked a club fairly randomly, and saw them play seven preliminary finals in a row for two flags. I’m ahead of most football supporters already, and I’m satisfied if I spend the rest of my life supporting non-premiership North melbourne teams to pay it back.
Young people today... I understand it, just don’t share it!fu** that, more flags

BHP put me up in North Melbourne when I landed, the tram wore blue and white (same colours as the local rugby team I watched every week growing up in Sydney), and I always liked vertical stripes. I had lived in Elwood and Fitzroy by then but the colours and stripes gave North the edge over Saints and Lions, thank *.Out of interest, what was the reason you randomly chose North?

I think I still have the one I won in the freezer - it would still be ok, wouldn't it?The colours pulled you in but it was the Kanga Kasino weekly meat tray win that kept you here.

you want some other club to win a flag? * no! every time a team that isn't north melbourne wins a premiership it's a disasterYoung people today... I understand it, just don’t share it!
I started in 1991, and can see what you mean. But I used all my credits about 10 years ago. Now I want success and I have had enough of the same crap.I have said this before but I have infinite patience about North winning another flag.
